3 Monitors, how?

SOH-CM-2023
All,

Just bought 2 more 24" monitors and two GTX 470's. I can get all three to show the same background pic or share a desktop but cannot get sims such as A-10C, FSX and KA-50 to span across all three monitors. I have not hooked up my cards in an SLI configuration, as have been told it's better to run two seperate cards to better control the four monitors. Sorry to mention that my 4th monitor is a touchscreen with a different resolution. The other three 24" monitors share a resolution of 1920 x 1200. All comments or suggestions gladly welcomed. Thanks in advsance.

triplehead2go!
Works just great!

I was trying to avoid the Triplehead2Go route, which is why I bought the additional card. Isn't there any other way to span the video without using the TH2G method? I was initially looking at an ATI setup for use of eyefinity, but went with Nvidia because of their similar support and the continued involvement with 3D.

From what I'm learning at the moment, I think what you might want to do is pass on Triplehead and instead set up the three monitors on the two cards using NVidia Surround. It's relatively new but performance seems to be better, and it's easier to set up with the latest NVidia drivers. I'm considering making the switch myself.

For a discussion already in progress, go here.

So, is the Nvidia Surround a hardware or software application? If software, I am not finding it on any searches.

Matt

Nevermind, found it on the Nvidia website. However, I don't recall seeing that option on the Nvidia control panel. Am I missing something?

As I understand it, it's configurable through the driver but I'm not sure how the setup works - haven't dealt with it yet.

It's only implemented on the most recent drivers.

FYI that a user on AVSIM reported performance problems in DX9 mode, but I'm not sure if that applies only to 3D Surround or to the 2D version as well. First I've heard of it - trying to find out more.

Thanks Alan. I am going to give it a try this evening and see what fruit the tree produces. I will also check thatI have the most current drivers as well.

OK, so I found out the only way to get that program to show up is if you are running the cards in SLI mode, so I did that but cannot get all three monitors to calibrate properly. So, will continue to tweak tonight and see what results are produced. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

works just fine with ati and eyefinity , although you quickly notice that at super wide resolutions 1gb of ram might not be enough.

Glad to hear you're making progress. FYI that the discussion about triple monitor solutions continues HERE at Simforums, with some interesting reports, including users who are saying that results seem to be smoother on TripleHead than via NVidia surround.

As with all things FSX, it's complicated...
