What does you place look like in FSX?

Well the best place on earth is called "home"! This small village at the North Sea coast is the place I was born, raised and still work and live.

The Netherlands don't look like the Netherlands in FSX an therefore I bravely started the 40+ GB download of NL2000 V4. And now the place where I live finally looks like the place I live in. As it is based on satellite pictures I can even fly over my own house.

How does FSX look on the area you live in? and does it look in anything like the real thing?

I'm curious and your screenies will be appreciated!

Thanks,
Huub

Huub, I won't post screens because nothing looks like it should in FSX, lol. I was born and raised in South Jersey and that area, other than maybe the road system bears little resemblance to home. I have lived in North Texas longer than I lived at home, having left there when I was 19 and ended up here with the Air Force. This area of North Texas, again aside from the road system and the Corp of Engineers Lake Texoma, bears no resemblance to this area at all.:salute:

Ditto here Huub, the terrain, roads, rivers, lakes, and even some large ponds, are there and make VFR flying easy for me. But the landscape or landclass, as it is called in Flight Sim, looks nothing like home. I can use Tile Proxy and get a simulated view, but it leaves much to be desired at low altitude. Maybe those great Orbx folks will take a look at Virginia and her surrounding states. :d

That's a super screenshot. :ernae:

Same here. I was born, raised and lived for 46 years in New York City - Upper West Side of Manhattan, specifically. The stock version doesn't make it (and thanks to frames it's unflyable). I tried Aerosoft's Manhattan X in FS9, and it was some improvement, but I haven't dared to try it in FSX yet for fear of performance that can only be measured in seconds-per-frame, not frames-per-second.

I live now in the Maryland suburbs just outside Washington DC. Thanks to UTX, the road system is correct, but nothing else is.

I mostly fly elsewhere.

About the only things Aces got right in Dunedin (Barely) were the mesh, and the shape of the harbor basin. Otherwise Dunedin IMO is unrecognizable.

Here is where I grew up in northeast Oklahoma. The airport is in the right place and thanks to UTX the roads and river are in
the right place. Everything else is fictional.

Luckily for me Aerosoft and FlyTampa! redid the place I spent my teenage years before joining the military. I recognized a lot of stuff, and builing/road placement is good enough for me! I want to start getting the Orbx products.. Hopefully at some point they consider doing my actual home town of North Augusta, SC. Would be nice to fly across SC and GA and have it look like real life.

No pic here, but as long as the general shape of the city and some natural features or bigger roads are close to the real deal, I feel quite at home in FSX. :d

Whidbey Island, WA. Sort of pretty up here.

Sort of pretty? That's an understatement in my opinion! I am so envious! Whidbey Island, WA is the most beautiful place I've ever lived. If I hadn't been married to a wench, er, I mean woman, from south GA at the time I retired from the USN, I would have NEVER left that island!

I'm originally from near Carmel, IN. But the default scenery is just too generic looking. Other than 3 business buildings known as the "Pyramids", there's nothing recognizable for the area I grew up at.

Any suggestions for a addon that would make the scenery more realistic?

There's a lot out there, but no clue which is the most accurate.

Not sure what can be said thats good about this town. I know that FSX in ways actually improves the appearance somewhat.. Its not my home, that would be santa cruz california, but its where i live..

I still have some clouds to clear up in the source, then I'll compile my one year old photo scenery for Southern Kalifornia. Put the airports where they belong and do the mesh, which will NOT have plateaus and go for a flight.

I have a popular vector based add on with replacement textures, but I've become a convert to good photo work. Even if it is labor intensive! I was looking at some source for the Mojave Desert area, up around Fort Irwin and there are things I never knew existed! Small volcanic domes and residual lava flow areas. If it compiles well there will be a lot of time spent exploring.

Right now I'm trying to finish NorKali, which will be available for download, for free. Donations will be accepted! But not required. :jump:

Although where I live (Vancouver Island) has had the Orbx PNW treatment, it really doesn't look much like the real thing. Victoria is missing all of it's landmark buildings, and all the other cities and towns can be identified by location only. The mountains are better with Orbx PNW and although the roads were improved with the PNW.002 patch, they are still not as complete as Ultimate Terrain X Canada.

Thanks guys, Some interesting comments here. I always though OBRX was quite accurate, but now I understand it re-creates the landscape, but not necessarily the villages and towns. And in general I understand FSX doesn't look like the real thing anywhere....

Below my area in default FSX. When you compare it with the first screenshot from this thread you will see FSX has no beaches and no dunes. And FSX doesn't know any villages but the complete area is just covered with groups of houses.

Oh and Paul consider yourself a luck man. I looked at so images on the web from Whidbey Island and it sure looks very nice!

Cheers,
Huub
