Christmas is right around the corner. Christmas has always been my favorite season. I find that people do seem to be just a little nicer around Christmas. I also love the music. I have wonderful memories of Midnight Mass as a boy and listening to the choir singing christmas carols.

What are your favorite christmas songs?

My two all time favorites are: Oh Holy Night and Little Drummer Boy. Another song I love, which isn't often played is Peter, Paul, and Mary's A'soalin . The guitar and voices in that song, are beautifully blended.

Mine would be Mannheim Steamroller's version of "Silent Night".

It reminds me of spending Christmas with my mom, dad, and sisters. It always gets me teary-eyed...... Such a beautiful rendition.

Same here John,

I am glad they do not platy Christmas music year-round, but I never tire of listening to it during the season. My radio is always tuned to a station that plays nothing but Christmas music.

It's hard to pick any one song I prefer over any other, but I like the Christmas album Harry Connick put out two years ago. This is a duet with his (then) 11 year=old daughter.

Silver Bells by Bing Crosby. Silent Night by Manheim Steamroller. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Sarah Mclachlan. Any version of Little Drummer Boy.

AND....Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by Gene Autry.

Here's two of my favorites!

Difficult to choose.....certainly "SILENT NIGHT" is Christmas..."JINGLE BELLS".is the child in us!
but in mids eye,I recall that during those years, all over the world, now so long ago...Bing Crosbys "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas still resonates. Then many kids were far from home,as they are today!.Christmas will always be a vehicle for music from the Ridiculous the Sublime..Try this on your ear.."Grandma got Run Over By a Reindeer"...Christmas ,it crosses its intent of the Birth of Jesus Christ,to a festive Winter Carnival ..in any form ,and it appeals to many....and in any form still a great time of the year!....Of course Its the message of hope and joy which is most important!! NOEL!!

I was going to post a UTube of something by Manhiem Steamroller, because they do Christmas in such a way that it is not only tolerable, but darned good too. But then I found this and decided it was way way better... :icon_lol: Is this even a Christmas song? It says it is. Heck, I'll play it again on Christmas. Maybe sooner...

John~ Thanks for starting the Christmas Songs thread!

You guys have posted some great ones already!

NavyChief~ Thanks for sharing your special song with us. Christmas time does bring back such wonderful childhood memories.

KD~ I laughed with your choice- at first I was like: Who the heck are The Pogues? Then I listened to the song and started laughing...and I believe you when you say you've belted out that song when drunk.....the singer certainly sounds like he is! LOL!

PRB~ One of my favorite songs by TSO- I saw them in concert once, here, in Pittsburgh. It was incredible! Out of this world light show and music! I would go see them again, in a heartbeat!

JoeP~ I love "I believe in Father Christmas" one. Thanks for posting the video!

Here are a three of my favorites:

Candy Cane Christmas by Darius Ruckert (fairly new song) Darius Rucker used to be the Lead singer for Hootie & the Blowfish.

Good morning,

Growing up in the church, I've grown somewhat tired of the American melodies to some of our most beloved carols. One of my favorites is "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," but sung to the English melody "Noel" by Sir Arthur Sullivan.

Another of my favorites is "Ding dong, merrily on high."

Not only do I enjoy Christmas songs, I need them to get me through this time of year when I'm feeling down. My mother, father and all the grandparents once in physical form have all passed. For me, I suffer from depression seasonally as my mind rethinks cherished moments of being together. For years I have been taking drugs. Those drugs are tears, smiles, hugs and hand shakes from the elderly that have been in old folks homes, rest havens and retirement villas. Some almost forgotten. It's sad.

I have been going to the places I mention since I was a young boy of 14. I was considered a grandson to many special people. I, they, and we shared many stories, memories and dreams. I was all ears back then. And even now. The important thing, we talked ...and listened. Most importantly, we laughed.

The topic here is Christmas songs. Heart warming. Cheery. Joyous and relaxing.
....I not only listen. I sing very heartfelt in a group. Walking through neighborhoods. Caroling so to speak. We all get great satisfaction by doing so. A thermos of peppermint schnapps mixed with hot cocoa to keep the boiler warm. We also go to all the rest homes locally...to bring back some smiles and hopefully many loving memories of times past for them too.

There's a lot more to the story. But I thought I would share my much needed healing remedy :)

This is a GREAT topic Cloud9gal. Thanks

This is one of my favorites Christmas song....

I used to work at the mall for a little while, about this time they started playing christmas music ALL DAY EVERYDAY. By christmas time I didn't want to hear another christmast tune lol. But as far as christmas tunes, my favorites are the Vince Guaraldi Trio's christmas tunes from Penuts. Just good classic jazz.

Cheers
