DC-2X Amsterdam Schipol - Lelystad Aviodrome Screenshots

Here are some screenshots of a recent flight I made in the Uiver Team X DC-2, from Amsterdam to the Aviodrome, using the modern PH-AJU Uiver and Jorrit van Drommelen's Aviodrome scenery for FS9 and FSX. These screenshots are not meant to be a show of my flying technique so please forgive me if the way I fly is not "by the book".

I hope you enjoy watching my little trip as much as I enjoyed flying it. I used real weather at the time - It was quite turbulent - and the DC-2 bounces around alot in turbulence, more so than its bigger brother the DC-3.

The early DC-2's had a smaller rudder and a nasty tendency to swap ends in bad weather. The original Uiver crashed only a few months after the MacRobertson race and was found in a desert pointing the opposite direction of the flight path.
The museum's DC-2 still has the original smaller fin, but a wider fin was rivetted over the original to enlarge the surface. This was only recently discovered during an intensive renovation of the control surfaces.
 
Cools shots! That DC-2 is one of the most fun planes in the hangar. You have to fly her properly, or she'll bite you. Very cool.

You should upload screenshots in JPEG format, not PNG. PNG is way too heavy and takes forever to load :/

Ouch! I didnt swap ends, though it was getting quite hairy in-between Amsterdam and Lelystad. Thankfully the weather was better when I came to land at Lelystad; IMO it was my best DC-2 landing yet! I find it quite hard to round out without ballooning; thats why you need to plan your approach i guess, also another limiting factor is that if you begin the approach too far out, the engines will overheat and catch fire :icon_eek: Havent had that happen to me yet though :engel016:
 
Normally you edit pics before uploading them...

It depends how you capture the image. I use fsscreen and when i hit print screen it saves a bitmap. I then use (freeware) GIMP to convert to jpg and resize to a suitable resolution.

If you use the "V" key (fsx default) I think you may just have to convert to jpg with software of your choice.

Looking at your screenshots your speed was over 70 kts on short final; the DC-2 can land much slower than that. With a light load 45 kts on touchdown is plenty. Even with a full load 60 kts is enough.

I did some tests a KNUW on Sunday, and I discovered that you can land the DC-2 at roughly 45 ktas no problem, just need some up elevator trim perhaps, because I was running out of elevator travel! :salute:
