Newbee with two questions

Hi everyone, I am an avid FSXer but today I got CFS3 and would like to know the following>

Can I use any CFS airplane with it?

Where can I find a tutorial on how to install planes and Misions_?

Hi Gera, welcome,

Unfortunately, you can't use CFS1 or CFS2 items in CFS3. The exception being sounds and sound files. You can use most engine sounds from the earlier combat sims and even some from the FS series, "usually" without any mods - just drop it in the main aircraft folder after removing the original sound folder. If you have let's say multiple P-51's, one of them could have a sound folder with all of the required sounds and the others would have a sound folder containing only a sound CFG file directing them to use the sounds from the first one - just like in FSX. This saves you from having to copy large sound folders into each aircraft folder. If you want to use gun or weapon sounds from the earlier combat sims then things get a little more complicated but not impossible.

Most missions include installation instructions, along with a list of required aircraft or vehicles needed. Ditto for most aircraft downloaded here at SOH. If you run into any problems with installation drop me a PM.
 
welcome aboard Gera, I am sure you will find there is still lots of fun to be had in (a heavily modded) CFS3. Hope you enjoy the ETO, PTO, MAW, KTO and OFF freeware add-ons when and if you get round to installing them.

I agree with the above and would add, take your time. CFS3 can a tricky beast if you jump in with both feet. The add-ons have streamline things, but some other newbies have found rushing installations can be frustratingly hard to untangle. Follow the read-me's to the letter and you will be fine. There are lot of guys willing to help the new guy on this forum, so don't worry about posting basic questions, we've all been in your shoes.

I think one of the most important things to remember, is that any file/folder you are changing is to BACK-UP beforehand, copy/paste the file/folder to a place outside the main CFS3 folder (ie to your desktop) THis will save you some grief.
 
Yea, there are some Great guys here who know their stuff..

Always follow the Read me's and as said Backup...

And don't be shy to ask, Heck, I mess my stuff up often..:jump:

Thank you all, I appreciate your notes and will follow your advise. Yes, these old MS sims can really be messed up by not knowing or not following instructions to the letter. I have been using MSTS for years and trouble is always around the corner every time a new addon is installed in not a careful way!!...I´ll check on of the plane addons and carefully do the surgery....Sorry to hear about the no compatibility with other CFS planes....
