I have a AMD 64 AM2+, ATI 4870, 650 watts, 4 gb memory, win xp pro sp3, and CFS3 must be run on the following settings 5, 3, 3, 5, 2 if not the game locks up, freezes, tells me to go $%^& myself and all sorts of nice things.

Oh, my win7 install is bad too.

I had a single core AMD and it was ok, I installed the optimizer and well it has failed me.

It is a good thing I like making stuff more than flying or I'd be very unhappy.

It just maybe be time to well I thought I'd never say this and go to the darkside and get a new mb and an intel chip........

If I did the unthinkable, what chip is recommended?

Hi NachtPiloten!

I'm running CFS3, MAW, ETO etc... on an AMD64 4200 Dualcore (2x2.1Ghz) on an ASUS board with an ATI1950 and 3GB of RAM.

I'm running dual-boot with XP SP3 32bit and Win7 HP 64bit.

CFS3 runs quiet fine with both OS'es. Only thing is, I don't find Win7-64 drivers for my motherboard, so sometimes my CFS3 stays in memory after closing it.

Cheers

Beware the power of the Dark Side, Nacht; you'll end up an old square just like me, LOL.

If CFS3 performance is a prime consideration, ignore power and go for sheer speed: a 2.6Ghz quad-core will have its face washed by a 3.4GHz Core2 Duo in CFS3. But I suspect that's not your main consideration.

However, that graphics card can cope with anything CFS3 can throw at it, so if you have (or are considering) some multi-threading up-to-date software which will exploit a multi-core processor in Win7, you could look at the i3 or i5 processors. Anything flashier becomes very expensive imo.

I generally look at Tom's Hardware Guide (no relation!) for guidelines, although it is seriously geeky:- www.tomshardware.com

@italflyer - the CFS3.exe left in memory is a known issue with Win7. Shut the program down using the in-game menu and you'll have no problems: using the Alt-F4 shortcut will leave the process in memory. I have mb drivers for Win7 64-bit and it still happens to me.

I never quit CFS3 by the "Alt-F4". But I noticed when I quit CFS3 via the menu while flying a mission or QC it shuts down as it should. But when I want to quit while in the UI the process remains in the memory. So I can live with it. Other than that, it feels as if it just runs slightly better on Win7 than on XP(SP3).

Cheers
