Airliner advice

Freeware a/c that I fly alot:
Project Opensky 737, 747, 777. I've replaced my default 737 & 747 with these.

Project airbus A319/320/380 - all good although the 380 isn't FSX model

Captain sim stuff - 727 and just bought the 707 in the sale, highly recommend.

In the UK, I use the UK2000 scenery british airports which give alot of airports for the price, I highly recommend them and Gary gives excellent support if you need anything.

I've also got France VFR Corsica, which is excellent, although their scenery is expensive, but most of my flight time is here because it's so picturesque !

Whilst there are payware Boeings and Airbus's out there, the quality of the freeware stuff is too good for me to justify the purchases of the payware stuff.

Don't forget Thomas Ruth's freeware airliners!

So far he has done the Airbus A300/310/330/340/Beluga in several model variations, and of course the Antonovs 124 and 225. Systems wise not more complex than the default aircraft, but great models and very nice VC's. And they are all available for free!

CS727 has become all time favorite tube-liner. Hard enough to be a challenge yet easy to learn and fun to fly. I never dreamed I would like a tube-liner being a bush pilot type! Thomas Ruth 737 series, as Ferry said, is also very nice for freeware. I am also a fan of the DC-9 similar flight characteristics to the 727

For a bit of real nostalgia I really in love with the A2A 377 whether with or without Accusim it is an experience!

I have the CS 727 and some other commercial payware but the jetliners I go back to over and over again are at the Historic Jetliners Group - Boeings, Convairs, Douglas - and just added - Lockheed. Freeware and the models and systems are well done and have excellent notes/instructions on their web site.

Then of course, if you want THE classic airliners go to Tom Gibson's California Classics for e.g. DC-4/6/7's, Boeing Stratocruisers and Lockheed Constellations and arguably more immersive than jetliners. Terrific stuff and nice people on their forum.

Captain Sim 757.

Got this one during the Christmas sale two years ago but I do not fly it very often due to the poor framerates it gives. Systemwise it is very complete, it has a fully functional FMC on board. (Not that I know how it works.. ;-) )
This add-on livery is one of my favorite airliner paints ever btw!

Captain Sim 727.

Got this one during last year's sale, and I like it much better than the 757. Easier on the frames, not a lot of computers on board, and it looks and sounds better.

Great VC:

I don't have any payware Airliners, but this A300 by Thomas Ruth is very nice, and free! I haven't dived into any of the systems yet so I can't comment on that, but as you can see, it's basically payware quality. The other two pics here are of the freeware FSND Cessna Citation X. Not an airliner, but it's also spectacular and also free.

I tend to like the tri-jets. As I don't have FSX, I get mine from Historic Jet Group. Not sure if they are FSX compatible or not. But I do like thier 727 and they've got an updated version of the E. Cantu L1011 Tri Star that I need to check out as that's my preferred heavy.

Thinking about getting the CS 727, just haven't made up my mind on it yet.

Edit: Oops, forgot one and don't see how I did. Probably got to thinking about the CS 727 and lost the bubble. David Maltby's DeHavilland Comet 4. The best freeware jetliner IMHO. Especially since he added the VC.

I forgot about the DC-2. That's another one in this catagory that I enjoy flying.

It's a tiny tuber, but still a tuber. :)

Hey Roger,

Knowing your proclivity for things old, might I suggest the following:

AFG Caravelle - not for FSX per se, but ports perfectly, as seen in my thread on the subject here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=47327

Also, SamDim did a fantastic TU-114 - the swept wings of a jet, with the cacophony of a turboprop - what more would you want? :)

Speaking of props, I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned Manfred Jahn's superb line of Connies, available now in FSX. Also, something I noticed a few days ago, they are STILL doing repaints to FSDZign Connie (I still think that was the BEST FS9 Connie model) - some now for FSX (almost 7 years on).

Of course, it goes without saying that the JH Comet 4 will be the cat's meow when it finally comes (the plane, that is, not the cat!).

Airports - loads to choose from. Back in the FS9 days a certain chap here (can't recall his name, had a Wall-E avatar) got me on to Avsim.su - some amazing gems there, as devs continue shifting toward FSX. Naturally, most airports are in Eastern Europe, but therein lies the exotic appeal.

Here's a few from there:

Finally, don't discount your old Calclassic airports altogether. This was discussed in another thread http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=41110&highlight=calclassic - Indochina 1962 airports work well, for example.

Hope that helps!

I had many tubeliners in FS9 and previous versions.

I don't have many tubeliners in FSX today. Mainly because my pc has great difficulty running large highly detailed airports and complex aircraft at the same time!

This is probably as close as I get nowadays.........................

Just checked and the HJG Lockheed L1011 TriStar is FSX compatible. And they have tons of paints for it.

Say Pam, where did you get the latest version of the this TU-124? Is this the one off avsim.ru/su? Does it come with any authentic Soviet-era Aeroflot paints?

thanks,

Actually, its years old and i got it from Samdim Design ( http://samdimdesign.free.fr/ ) it appears to come with two livery's, Aerophlot old and new. There is still no VC for it though and i've pretty much given up on seeing one though i had always hoped..
