New aircraft

EN830 NX-X, flown by P/O Bernard Scheidhauer FAFL, 131 "County of Kent" Sqn RAF, captured on Jersey 18th November 1942. His wingman during this flight was the rather better known Henri de Bordas, also FAFL.

Schneidhauer was murdered on 28th March 1944 along with Roger Bushnell after escaping from Stalag Luft III during the Great Escape. http://www.historyinfilm.com/escape/real8.htm

EN830 was scrapped after being damaged beyond repair on 14th August 1944 when the test facility at Echterdingen was bombed by the USAAF.

Actually, did you know the Jugs tried the same thing with a Hurricane MkI, shortly before being invaded by the Hun? The Hurri with a DB601A apparently had better take-off and climb performance than either the normal Hurri or the Bf109e.

Unnecessary to remind anybody that the Bf109 began its career with a Rolls-Royce Kestrel, and finished it with a Rolls-Royce Merlin!

history

a little history never hurt a person! how it was built schmitfire finally turns?
un peu d'histoire ne fait de mal a personne! combien de schmitfire on ete construit enfin transforme?

Just this one; they had considered doing it with an earlier MkI, probably N3277 AZ-H which had been captured at Cherbourg on 18th August 1940, but the work was never started.
