Graf Spee

he's a beautiful model, and very much worth being done..
its story however isnt so much abut a german battleship as it is about a very humane and honorable captain, and the cunning and enginuity of her pursuers.. great ship, incredible story..

Anyone got a spare torpedo??

The model looks stunning, but I'm afraid the use in FSX is quite limited. The companion of the Bismarck was the Prinz Eugen and not the Graf Spee.

Ah. My history has gotten a bit rusty in recent years. The Graf Spee went on a reign of terror by itself. Thanks for the correction... I personally think these ships are great to have in FSX if they were to work with the ship placement tool that we use for Javier's carriers. Either gives you something to use for target practice, or sight see when flying over long stretches of water. Personally can't wait for his Alreigh Burke class DDG.

Pam, i've got a Swordfish armed and standing by for you... the Spee made quite a move around it seems, From the North sea, to the Atlantic, even as far as the Indian Ocean... i'd agree that another good ship to have would be HMS Hood... and the Bismarck, all iconic ships...

in any case fire up the swordfish' it's training time :icon_lol:

Yes but I have one of their sailing ships and take it around the islands (PW Grenadines scenery) on occasion. I find it relaxing and sometimes a challenge. I can see using this ship once in while but again it would be nice to have the aircraft usuable as well.

Forget the Swordfish , Forget the 'Plate' I retired three Cruiser,s and brought in the heavies:salute:

It is.

Which is where OUR current project (FS-ShipNet) will make a difference..... 'active' ordnance and multiplayer, off-line and online navigation and operations..... stay tuned.... ! ;-)

I beg to differ in this respect:

One of Langsdorff's first actions when he entered Montevideo was to release the 62 crew of the merchant ships he had sunk during her most recent voyage.Out of nine merchant ships sunk, none of the crews had been killed. All of those released spoke highly of their treatment and of Langsdorff, who spoke perfect English and lent them English books to pass the time. Captain Dove of the Africa Shell had already become friends with Langsdorff.

Although - from my point of view - there is no good in evil (no such thing as "knighthood" in an utter war of aggression, be it in the air or on the seas...), I can't find an explicit reign of terror in the Graf Spee's short raid history.

Cheers,
Markus.

While he did release the crews of all merchant ships he sank. He still caused enough trouble for the British to put a bounty on the ship, and send part of their fleet after him. I am sure the crews of the mercantile vessels they were sent to sink were terrified from the moment they left port till they made it to the next. Although the German's utilized cutting edge technology (at the time), and brand new techniques. I give them a lot of credit in those areas. I mean if someone went around now with a Frigate, or Destroyer blowing up commerce ships I would pretty much think that would be considered terror. If other people don't view it that way then that is acceptable by me.
