My "Man Cave": A work-in-progress

Around 2006, I bought a new computer system, a DLP projector, and built a simcockpit. This room used to be my flightsim/movie room.

Well, I no longer have the simcockpit setup. Instead, I decided to make this my movie/music room. Repainted the room a dark blue/gray color. Both recliners have 50 watt bass shaker speakers under them, hooked to a sub-woofer amp. When an explosion happens in a movie, you feel it. It is awesome! You can't see it, but there's a small dorm size refrig on the floor between the recliners for (beer of course). And I have my drums and congas/bongos set up to play along with concert dvds. Good thing my neighbors are quite a distance away! I still need to get creative with hiding speaker wires and power cords, but the room is coming along nicely.

Actually, since I am single, I suppose my ENTIRE house is a Man Cave, but, well, you know.....

My animals don't even pay attention to the noise:) As for the bass shaker/amp setup, it's easy. I bought the parts from Parts Express. Here's the links:

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=299-028 ($44.50 ea)

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-802 ($110)

You'll need a subwoofer amp, and the two speakers. Connect subwoofer output to amp input. Then run output wires from the amp to the two bass shaker speakers. I hooked mine up in parallel. I simply attached the speakers to the support wire frame under the cushions, and connected the wires to the amp. If you decide to go this route, contact me. The connection is easy, but you need to know a couple details about the amp itself. NC

P.S. I have a Dayton 70W amp I can let you have real cheap, if you are interested in it.

Yeah. Top Gun sounds rediculous on my sound system too.. Is one of my favorite movies to watch. Nothing beats the opening scene.... Is the Flight of the Intruder movie any good? I read the book when I was on cruise in 08', and thought it was very good. Never watched the movie though because every book I have seen turned into a movie never lived up to the book.

Actually, the "Flight of the Intruder" (as is the case with many movie recreations of books) was not very good, in my opinion. I had read the book beforehand, and was eagerly anticipating the screen version. It was a disappointment. Still, I have the dvd, and watch it occasionally. There are some good scenes with Intruders flying, and I do love that.

I am glad you mentioned that movie though. I just found out a Blu-Ray version had been released recently. Just ordered a used copy from Amazon.com. Thanks!!!
