Must haves?

Can't really give good advice since I do not own every piece of payware available, but from the ones I do have I can recommend the DC-2, Aerosoft Catalina, FW-190's, Real Air Spitfire, Flight Replicas Me-262's & CAC Boomerang and the Sky unlimited P-38.

I think you can have accusimmed aircraft and still enjoy well done non accusimmed craft. Accusim is wonderful and I think it teaches those who don't have actual flight training to fly an airplane properly....ie smooth control movements, watching engine temps and generally improved situational awareness. Now when you fly other non accusim airplanes with that improved situational awareness your enjoyment of them will be improved too. Just because the engine won't die because because of poor managment doesn't mean you should use poor engine managment :mixedsmi:

ignoring the added accu-sim physics etc of course ;)

Yes we have a new Spitfire out very soon and then we will be carting it all over to the Accu-sim P-51 mustang to give that the realistic treatment in both flight, physics, systems etc now we have our external game engine doing its thing :wiggle:

Personally I'd recommend, piglets stuff and dave G's stuff for freeware, oh and anthony's stuff too. Slightly Bias on recommending payware hehe, but yes for modern carrier stuff VRS Superbug is the way forward.

First off, Kiwi I hope the Packers suck it up haha!

And to the OP:

Soo many choices hehe... so much money LOL!

Well it really depends on what you intend on doing with the simulator. I do all kinds of varying flight operations. So first you must ask yourself what your overall intentions are. I can recommend all kinds of aircraft/scenery from my personal experience.

Aircraft:
-Anything A2A Accu-simmed. The B-17 is definately an excellent choice, but their B377, P47, and J-3 Cub are just as fun.
-Anything PMDG. Definately have to abide by procedures and such if you hope to get their birds off the ground.
-I am a partial party I know, but you can research other threads yourself on our Milviz Cessna 310R as it is a good starter aircraft.
-The Realair Duke is another good bird, and am looking forward to their turbine version (is going to be tough deciding between that and the Spitfire).
-FS Labs Concorde X
-VR Simulations F/A-18E
-Iris Premium/Platinum products

Sceneries:
-UTX/GEX USA & Canada- Definately makes home look a more like home. Although it is still not perfect, but it covers a vast amount of area
-Fly!Tampa Airports- I personally have KBUF, and I have never seen an airport that looks as real as the way they do theirs. Adds that extra level of immersion that when I land a default airport makes me realize how much the default airports suck.
-Freeware, Jim Dhaenens makes excellent freeware military base sceneries. There are also many others out there, but to many to list. Just have to do some research.

I just brought FSX Gold home tonight, and while I'm getting the feel of it, I was wondering what are the must haves? In FS9 I focused mostly on warbirds and carrier ops.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: Payware is an option, I'm going to get the FSX B-17 from A2A for sure.

The F-18 is a must http://vrsimulations.com/FA18EFSX.htm
for carrier ops.
get the FSX B-17 from A2A for sure unless thy are thinking about adding the TacPack as an addon. Then I would wait.

I would wait on any payware milltary plane to see if thy are going to add the Tacpack. IMHO

The B-17, and P-47 Accu-sim already feature droppable bombs from the aircraft. Only benefit I can see is that you can add machine guns to the P-47. As for the B-17 would have to add all the different stations to have the gunners. Would be cool, but A2A does have their own stuff in the works as well as far as weapons go.

I have the A2A b-17 and you can drop bombs but thy do nothing other then drop. You can drop bombs from any plane that shows the effect of hitting the target with the FSX Weapons Pack.
Only thing you have to put them in a saved flight.
With the TacPack we will not need to do this.

with the TUPOLEV TU-95MS “Bear"
FSX /Acceleration / XP /Tested
VC / Droppable & Exploding Missile

The bomb is add to the [SMOKESYSTEM] and you can see the explosion on the ground. And drop as many as you want.

You can add this to the [SMOKESYSTEM] also just for burps and giggles.

This is a site to look at for the advanced FSX user.

Good catch. Just found our RWD-8 which I recently re-uploaded on Avsim together with the expansion pack. I wrote them a mail, but I don't think they will even respond. Sorry for small OT

It's a site which takes addons from Avsim and other sites, and upload them to their own library without author permission. Then it charges for download. I'd put it on the same shelf as torrent downloads.

Why do's the author not ask for them to take there stuff off the site?

I did not have to pay to download. It was slow to download but no pay.

Thy should not be loading things with out the author permission if thats the case. Thy should be asked to take the stuff off if the author do's not want it on there site.:angryfir:

Authers have asked for removal but the site doesnt ever listen.

Are you serious? It's admin's responsibility to ask authors for permission. If an aircraft or scenery is freeware it doesn't mean you can do anything with the file. I haven't released anything as public domain.

Can I take that admin's car? If he need it back, he can ask.

there is a wrong being commited there in not asking the authors permission nor removing products ion the authors request, but there is nothing wrong with any site offering fre downloads an asking for people to pay for higher speed downloads.. Sites cost a lot of money to keep up and running. Users are the only people that can keep a site going and without usetr support, most sites die..
However, like i said, their upload practices appear to be amoral and wrong..
OP, you can see where the community is beginning to take this thread.. Its not a positive direction but sometimes that cant be avoided.. I can only encourage the others to keep a clear head about them and not get dramatic, because of it does, I or one of the admins will lock this thread..

Those sites have been around at least as long as I've been mucking about with CFS and FS. They were one reason I quit doing add ons other than the occasional paint job.

I've never had one respond to a request to take down my stuff. That's just they way they work.
