Freeware Gloster Gladiator?

big-mike

SOH-CM-2022
Anyone knows if an Gloster Gladiator for FSX is available as Freeware?
I only know there is one from Icarus and one from FSAddon out.
Thanks
Michael

Thank you very much, this one works.
At the moment i`m very short on money
and so i can get an first impression.
But you`re right,i should spend some money.
Michael

Its no freeware but the one from FSAddon is simply fantastic. It sells for less than 20 euros. :ernae:

I totally agree with the above François...

Your Gladiator is one of my favorites. I like the looks and feel of all the versions. But most of all, the kid in me loves the sound of your Brownings...:jump:

Took a short spin with the Sea Gladiator and tested my guns before take off just to show Michael.

Cheers,

Hello BM,

I can relate to the budget issues - as can most.

Being a very big Gladiator fan, I sprung for both. I first got the FS Addon version - it was fantastic. Unfortunately, most (if not all) the aftermarket repaints were for the Icarus model. So I sprang for that too (damn repaint artists! lol :) ).

In the end, my preference was FS Addon version. Higher level of fidelity in the cockpit and external details. The one drawback (that comes with that detail) is a bit more of a FPS hit (abound 8-9) than I would want from a good model. The combination of that Gladiator on the FSX Victorious is a bit choggy for my liking (min 20 fps). By contrast, the Icarus ran super smooth.

Both good products, filling different niches (detailed model interest vs general market interests).

Hope that helps,

dl

I agree the FSA one wins on balance, though I have a nagging issue with the guage glasses that's never been explained and which spoils it a bit for me. It looks great and flies properly, unlike the Icarus one which seems massively overpowered and has broken flaps. Hopefully the repaints will catch up, as the FSA model is still pretty new!

Please remember that Simon is still a relatively new artist in the FSX development, and each model is getting better, with more detail AND better (fps) performance. I wish I could learn as fast as he has done over the past 3 years!

As for the gauges, we cannot duplicate the issue unfortunately, so it is hard to 'correct' because of that. If we DO find a way, we certainly will!

More repaints?

Yes.... Jan Kees !!!!!! ?? :wavey:

I'm all for repaints, but I'm still waiting for the paintkit you promised....

delta lima, I'm sorry if I forced a purchase on you, I can only hope you like my paints...

LOL

Jan Kees, your work is legendary - there was no gun to my head.

Maybe in hindsight, I'd not have bought that particular model, but your work is so good, and covers so many subjects, that I feel overwhelmingly glad I follow your projects.

To keep things in perspective, the primary reason I got the FSA model was for the Sea (hooked) version. The advantage of the Icarus model is for the myriad of other models (skis, etc), in combination with the dozen or so paints, gives huge breadth of that model. So technical merits aside, the overall value of the Icarus product is good - all your repaints make the value superb.

Indeed, in a perfect world there would be a few more Gladiatior (and Sea Gladiator) repaints. Nevertheless, the glass is well more than half full ... :)

Since I have the Icarus version, could you please point me at these repaints. Google doesn't say much.

I think I did about 10 repaints for the Icarus Gladiator, first a couple based on the (dirty) default textures, and when Huub found me an Il-2 paintkit, I (re)did a few more.

Errrrrrmmmm....... geheugen als een vergiet..... (for those non-Dutch speakers it means; one paintkit coming up...... as soon as I get Simon in South Africa to read this !! :)) ).

I have been considering this one; Does the Sea Gladiator have a tail hook?
