HMCS Bonaventure & F9F Panther fan's......

"P" version was unarmed, but very nice looking skin. Just do a little weathering :). :salute:

I guess the Grumman F9F Panther is acting as a substitute for the McDonnell F2H Banshee that were deployed on the HMCS Bonaventure? Looking real good though.

I know. Weathering has to wait, still working on edging and correcting the scematics, finding/creating decals, and paint all the details. It i a very early WIP. :wiggle:

It is part of a "what if" series for the F9F. Made several liveries for country's that never had this splendid and good looking bird (Dutch, British and German navy so far, Canada is next and then the French). :salute:

I'd say they're the recce complement to the Banshee. Oh this will be delightful.

Looks great, Warrant! Really captures the mid-50's feel. You gave me a bit of a scare with those rockets ... I know the mission would have been pre/post strike photography ... maybe you were thinking "take the picture, fire the rockets, take another picture ... all in one pass? LOL. I know, you'll eventually use the -P model.

Only big thing (and you may already know this) is that in not having the radar, the P's nose radome wouldn't be black. I'm assuming you're already on top of that - just pointing it out in case it saves you work.

I know you're still WIP - totally awesome, even early on.

Many thanks,

dl

Thanks for the kind words.

Regarding the rockets; nobody heard of "recce attack interface" missions? LOL

Made the black nose as trial with the Banshee paint as example. Made the nose for the F9F-5 and the -P. Still wrestling in what scematics will best resemble a "what if" Panther in the time-span the Canadian Navy was using the Banshee, and what will best fit the shapes of the Panther. It's gonna take a while before i finish this one.

No worries - take your time Warrant - this will be worth the wait - as have the others before it.

French Aeronavale is an interesting notion - assuming the "Aquilon"/Sea Venom had never materialized ... never thought of that!

The Panther looks great, but what really has my interest is The Bonnie! Are there any WIP pics of her by chance? The prospect of having that ship in FSX has me grinning ear to ear. If I were allowed to pick just one ship for FSX, it would have been that one.

Thank you :salute:

My assumption is the title was intended to say "hey fans of RCN stuff - here's a Panther variant that could have flown off the Bonnie ..." not "there's an HMCS Bonnie coming".

If I'm wrong about that, I would love to be corrected. Like you, I have a real Bonnie itch too. Closest we came was Razbam's static Melbourne.

I know I gave Peter Forster some Bonnie technical material a while back when he was working on a Sea Fury (FS9 days), don't think there's any active projects on any Majestic class carriers.

I believe there's an HMS Ealge in development - can't recall whose at the moment.

For now, it's the Victorious and the Ark - and a bit of imagination. With a bit more imagination, there's the lovely Clem and Essex models. Mind you, I've always wondered if a repaint of the Victorious in a post WWII scheme (along the lines of the HMS Glory) would be a decent 50's stopgap between the early 40's camo'ed Victorious and the late 60's Ark. True, a straight deck, but I could live with it if painted as post WWII. Just a brain burp, for what it's worth.

Yeah I probably read into the title... I just saw HMCS Bonaventure and got carried away lol. And like you said, I have just been using Victorious and Ark Royal with more then a bit of imagination ;)

Fell for it as well :(
Having said that there was talk over at Razbam about remodeling the Melbourne when the "FSX" their Skyhawks. So if/when this comes to pass you could have the Melbourne repainted to te Bonnie :)

Cool Thread!!

Some nice photos of naval air ops from other countries. Though Canada's navy was one of the world's largest numericaly, we never were strong in carriers, alas. Two light carriers that we kept for only a couple of years (Warrior and Magnificent) then the Bonnie. Costs, political deliberations and machinations, and conflicting mission priorities got us in and back out of the carrier game in barely over two decades.

Thanks goodness for FS and imagination ... :)

....Watch this Space Delta Lima :) It will be more than a repaint.

Back to this thread the RCN Panther repaint looks great.
