"IKAROS" airport

Dimus

SOH-CM-2025
I finished my second FSX scenery project, in an effort to create the airfields that I actually fly to usually from my home base Tatoi LGTT. This is the IKAROS field, a private strip, 105km NW of Athens, Greece, located in the Kopaida plains between the towns of Aliartos, Kastro and Orchomenos and west of Yliki lake. It was built and owned by the company Air Safety Aviation (http://www.airsafety.gr/) that also runs an ultralight flightschool at the premises and is distributor of TECNAM aircraft in Greece. It is a pure general aviation field and the small terminal offers some services and facilities for the convenience of visiting aviators and passengers.

The file has been uploaded to SOH library: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=113&linkid=3726 . I have also uploaded to AVSIM but it will take some time to clear.

This is a much simpler job than my previous effort for Tatoi as the field is small and features just one terminal building and no hangars. However, I included a region bgl file that will force US region field textures to be displayed instead of Europe as these rectangular fields are better to represent the actual area. The scenery was designed to fit the GEX EU and GEX NA textures that I'm using so I don't know how it will look in default.

If you have my Tatoi scenery, this is a nice short hop away. Some custom GA traffic and road traffic close to the field are also included.

All comments and criticism welcome. Hope you enjoy it. I intend to add a small ultralight/glider field that is situated about 2 miles nort of IKAROS in the near future.

An observation, not a criticism. Picture #3 shows the hold-short lines being backwards? I always remind myself that the hold-short lines are like a comb and the "teeth" of the comb is suppose to be facing the runway. Or at least that's what GE is showing me at a SoKali airport. Plus all my airports are made teeth to the runway.

Other than that, good to see someone sinking their teeth (pun intended!) into scenery design. Especially the smaller fields. :ernae:

You're absolutely right Meshman. This totally escaped my check. I have to correct it asap.

Thanks for the kind words all.

Well Sir as you can see I was actually taxiing to the runway when some idiot took a screenshot:naturesm:honest

That Gipsy Moth needs an SX- registration ;)

nice work Dimus, and glad to see you hard at work crafting these lesser known Hellenic Fields :salute: and thank you for your hard work :ernae:

Make me one Smoothie...looks like I'll be exploring Hellas some more now:greece:

It's by Jim Douglass and it's an Fs9 port-over. I'm pretty sure we have it in The Old Hangar downloads section.

Cheers,

Roger.

ok Roger, will take a look now... a nice Hellenic Blue and white should Suffice, maybe the reg 'SX-SOH' would be apt....

almost forgot... which model the X or the G?

Either, it doesn't matter. Good man, I'll be looking forward to it:ernae:

Off to bed now it's hellish late for an 0650 start, lol.

Roger, I just figured this field is much becoming to you as it has the same name as your avatar!

A few notes: If you are using the FTX aero program choose taxiway lines with no black outline, they look more lifelike. Also if you are using alternate runway and taxiway textures like REX chose a light asphalt texture.

I would also appreciate a screenshot from above from someone using default FSX textures. The airport was optimized to fit the GEX US fields so I have no idea how it looks and fits in default.

I doubt I can tell you of any FS site you don't know, but on the off chance... FSGreece.com has alot of nice freeware scenery. Once I get a few nice airports for a smaller country I like to fill out the rest as much as I can with freeware. Nothing ruins my immersion more then flat rectangle airports with a plain strip, even if I am just flying over them ;)
