I'd lean towards urban myth. It's that, or really bad intel bad-guys.

IIRC, both of the naval safety center magazines (Approach and Mech, both available on the web and both authorized for public distribution) featured an article about the movie being made aboard the Vinson and the Abraham Lincoln. That was probably a year before the movie came out.
