IL-2 Cliffs of Dover released

Thanks Mike.

I was all up for this until I started looking at all the vids posted on Youtube over the last week. The cockpits look fab as does the general 3d modelling.. and of course the water . The grass and flowers are nice too.

However the landscape and airfields..er... typical Il2 as far as I can tell, Shockwaves BoB 2 and ETO look much better in that department IMO. I think (hope) it's going to be moddble which is when I'll buy it.

It does look the beans but cant afford it so it'll have to wait.

Pat, they are going to be releasing an sdk for this sim later so what that will allow the modellers and modders we will have to see.

There on about doing a career part to it later aswell so i guess we'll have to see what comes over the months.

No sell for me . This is why.

"Yes, you will need a Steam account even if your play offline."

Your game will not work with out being on the internet.......................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And this is from the old USSR.

No offence to the peoples of that country.

Big Brother is watching!

Every Steam game i've played has the same problem. It's irritating.

Great news!

That sucks! Hopefully they'll re-think that or there will be a workaround st some point.

I've yet to see close-up screenies of the RAF airfields, however this was on the 1c forum. Seriously impressive!

I have looked at some more of the pictures and this is looking good.

I am going to have to try this. :mix-smi:

Here I go again with both feet. Downloading now.:banghead:

We are having work done on the house (New flooring) and I'm having to move things around and taking up the old rug so the contractors can put in hard wood floors next week.

So I don't know when I will have time to do much with this.

Man I'm a nut for flight sim's. I hope this is as good as it look's. I did more reading and thy have now said you do not have to be on line to fly single player.

You can turn off the Steam and play offline. But you have to be on Steam to download and set-up the sim if you do not get the CD's to install the sim. You still need to activate the sim on line with stream. The Steam is used to update the sim and an on line community like SOH all at one site. We all use this if you have you windows update turned on or java things like that. Anything that updates your programs.
The fact is if you played MP on the CFS3 M$ sever that was stream.

even coming on SOH is a form of stream the only thing is you can not turn off soh and still post . lol

I'm sorry to report that CoD is a bust for me.

Pat if you can not fly FSX there is no way you can even sniff this sim.

You need a real supper PC for this.

You will need 64 bit and at the least 4gb ram and a very good video card. i have the video card but not the ram. I have 32 bit and after I turned off the grass, trees and things on low and the cockpit on high it still looked bad like a video game in a pool hall in the 70's.
If you do not turn off the grass it will not load.
unless thy have a fix for xp very soon i,m asking for a refund!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Mike, I've already realised that this sim will cost me several hundred pounds if I wasnt to run it.

I posted over at SimHQ requesting screenies of the airfields. I found out that the map stops just north of London which excludes places like Duxford, Debden and Coltishall to name but 3 from the battle! Manston also appears to be missing!! fps can be dealt with, this sort of gross omission can't, so until this is able to be sorted it's a no-go from me sadly. Having said that a whole new combat sim to build airfields in does appeal :).

On your issues, you can apparently turn off the epilepsy stopper which helps a lot, there are other tips and tweaks emerging too.

Pat, thy only way for the sim to look like it should is for me to put 64 bit on the the pc.

I have run a test on my hard ware to see if I can put windows 7 on and I can.

a lot of $ for a sim. but with the new games going 64 bit I will probably need to do this.

I have to roll with the changes and this is one of them. I like xp but w7 might be best to get with.

I have an EX- HD to put my programs on and there is a windows program to transfer things to the Ex-HD then back to my IN-HD after w-7 is installed. for me this will take a few days.

I well have to think about this.

Mike

I am sorry to hear it takes a much better computer then I can even dream of..
64 bit and all of this is well past anything I can hope for..

Heck, CFS3 was out for a couple of years before I was able to scrape up enough back then to get a computer ( I built) just to run CFS3..
Perhaps someday I will have a chance to take a look at this..

But until then, I am pleased and grateful to Play and build for My Beloved CFS3..And the expansions..

Owen, this sim is not what thy said it was. CFS3 is much better.
I was thinking about up dating to w7 to get 64 bit.
but there are folks having all kinds of trouble with 64 bit that have much better systems then what i use.

IMO thy are very deceptive in what thy are doing.

The best system can not run this sim.

I'm getting this mess of my PC.

Mike, get yourself a second HD if you're going the Win7 route and install to that. A dual-boot setup then means you can run either.

Why do that? As long as you want to keep using CFS3, you'll enjoy it better in XP, imo - the loss of specular textures under Win7's video driver model is something I don't want. I've been doing some experimenting with my model and reflective textures show just fine in Win7, but even turned up to the max the specular effect doesn't show.

As far as CoD goes, gorgeous modelling, lighting, damage model but it's a pity I'd need to upgrade to an i7 rig to run it well. That's assuming third-party modelling will be catered for!

From what I have learned in the last few hours is that it is not the w7 or xp that is the problem with this sim. It's just a bad sim the why it is. Thay must have never flown CFS3 and the expansions or thy would know what a sim should be like.

And the people that are saying how good it looks and plays must work for them.

My review DO NOT GET THIS SIM. As it is now thy are cheating people.

There people buying new hard ware even new PC to fly this sim and it's still not working.

I have not been flying sim's as long as a lot of you but I have never seen a co.take so many people like this before. This is IMO.

The only other Co. that came close is CS with some of there things in FSX. I will never get any thing from them again.

You can say what you want about M$ but thy do not put out stuff like this.

I re-installed CoD. And believe it or not have it running really good on my system.

I have all the functions working on high but grass and thy are working on a patch for that for xp.

Will post a video.

I have never flown this sim and there is a lot to it.

I was pretty up set about it not working like CFS3 or FSX. I had to turn my screen resolution to 800x600 pixels for the sim to work. I really do not know why it started working other then that unless when I was on line with the sim thy put in a patch that down load auto with stream.

The best thing is you do not have to be online to fly CoD in single player. Just to make sure I discounted the cable for the PC. Stream is just for updates and MP.
