Damage at Lakeland, Florida's Sun 'n Fun air show may be in the millions after a storm blew through late Thursday morning, damaging aircraft and structures on the ground. Everyone has been accounted for on-site, and there are no reports of serious injuries. Initial reports on cable news channels indicated that 70 people were trapped under a collapsed roof, but those reports appear to have been unfounded. Lakeland Police Department's Terri Smith, whom AVweb spoke with on-site, informs us that no building have collapsed. (Some outlets are reporting that a tent collapse had temporarily trapped those inside.)
Storms were still moving through the area after the initial onslaught.

Looks like the Zenair stand took a direct hit. Feel bad for everyone who lost their aircraft, and on top of that for others for whom it will have an effect on their business, as well. Thank goodness not more were hurt.

I worked Plant City (KPCM) as a volunteer today...it was still a bit of a mess at Sun n Fun due to flooding and downed trees in the some of the parking areas. Backed traffic up a great deal. That got better as the day went on.

KPCM had no damage with the exception of one of the hangered aircraft whose spinner got hit by a hanger door shoved off the rails. Damage was cosmetic, and the spinner was replaced today.

National Weather Service confirmed that an EF1 tornado had actually touched down on the Western side of KLAL.
