Freeware Grumman Duck

Off topic, but relevent...

You're right. It IS off topic. And the fact that this is being brought up again, is NOT needed. Those interested in either model will download it and fly it or them for what they are. To sum it up, people do have minds of their own and can make their own decisions. MORE BASHING IS NOT NEEDED!! MOVE ON

Bashing? The fact is that icarus bashed the SOH for being a home for pirates, the place where he was defendended, and accused one of the best modelers on the internet for being pirate Nr 1 (Bomber_12th). I agree that we should forgive but still, it is difficult to express how i feel about icarus's, and i would probably have been banned for expressing my exact feelings about his actions, sorry, had to say it.

Now, please ban me :jump:

Are you going to post the XML code for the mouseovers?

Dave
Posting the code for the five gauges wouldn't help unless you knew where to place them in the VC.
It took a while!

The download is at flightsim.com in the library today Under FSX New Files or FSX - FSX Panels; FSX Grumman J2F Duck 2D Panel "duckpandcb1.zip"

If you don't want or need the 2D, you can delete the 2D Windows descriptions from above [Vcockpit01].

The panel.DCB folder has the normal panel.cfg, and the panel.SPAP folder has the Sperry AP panel.cfg. You will need the "DuckJ2Fextras" folder for the mouseovers and extras.

If you know how to manipulate the panel.cfg you can copy my lines with the gauge names that end in VC with position/size data, and put them in your own.

Enjoy...Don

What each fails to realise is that in effect, jp, oleboy and yourself are all saying the same thing.
icarus' comments about the SOH are history now and moving on is all we can do, knowing that those comments come from an emotional response rather than a logical appraisal of the situation. The really sad thing to me is that John Terrell is getting the same treatment from the pirates as icarus.

My apology. I should have read through things a bit better like so many have said "read the whole topic" before posting a comment. I did exactly what many here do. I'm just so bitter about everything lately. I would just like to see all the BS end so we can all get back to the good in all this.

It's tough to stay objective when the forums were as hyperactive as they were last week. As staff I'm proud we made it through with all the consensus we had and a strong resolve to make it better.

And I think you did fine.:salute:
I'm a latecomer to this site but I'll definitely be staying around.

I did not realize the code for the VC switches was in the 2d window update. Got it now and it works great. Thanks for figuring out where to place the mouse overs for the VC :)

Tried my hand at repainting this bird. Nothing I hate worse than a good model with the potential for a lot of repaints, only to find the mapping is very inflexible. Here's some screenshots of a J2F-4 painted in VMJ-7 circa 1938. The VMJ-7 insignia had to be moved where it is because of mapping issues of the vertical stab.

I got a reply from Swingman!

Thank You, Tim

Sorry if my english is not good.

I saw that "Duck" from ICARUS - one of the (crappiest) payware i ever seen! ))))) How can they ask money for that?!!

Use these files as You wish. I have no time for redone or repaint J2F(who knows - maybe You will do it better? ), because my next model - YAK-18 is close to finish.
Tim, if You want the GMax model, i'll send that to you - for example to add bombs or apply an FSX materials. Shadows on biplane surfaces should be realistic in FSX.

Best regards

Alexander

I edited out the original word that SWingman used to describe the Icarus Duck and replaced it with crappiest....the original word means the same thing but would not pass the language filter.

I did ask for a copy of the Gmax source code for the Duck. I don't know how to use it, but I am sure that I can find someone who knows Gmax well enough to tweak the texture mapping on the wings and tail and add in a proper prop blur texture. And possibly do up an FSX native Duck with bump mapping and all.

So, who wants to be the Gmax hero on this bird?

I will upload the original Duck package and the tweaked MDL files to the library in a bit.

That is sad. But on the positive side I bought the second Warbirdsim restored P51 package last week to join the first one that I had already bought. It's really excellent! :applause: I can highly recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in warbirds.

Cheers

Paul

I suggest we adopt it as a SOH project much like the A-26 and P-61. I am sure we have enough skilled members on here to do it justice in both sims.

SWingman's Grumman Ducks in the FS2004 Aircraft section

SWingman gave me permission to upload his original package to our library....and it has been uploaded. FS2004 Aircraft section.

Now I will package up the tweaked MDL files and upload them in a bit.

OBIO

A package of tweaked MDL files was just uploaded to the FS2004 Other section of the SOH library.....yeah...I'm an FSNiner at heart and tend to upload to that library. I did what I could to improve the prop blur by making the material more translucent. I also included a set of de-shined Model files. PLEASE read the READ ME file to know what you have to do to use the tweaked Model folders. It's easy...just read the directions.

Done! And it's just beautiful with the de-shined model files. Now I can see the wing detail.

Another fine job, Sir!
My aircraft.cfg just grew so I could have all of the variations to try.

I know it is way too soon, but, does a native FSX model set look possible?

Thank you...Don
