personally..this "news" doesnt bother me..i dont mind one bit,,,im not a criminal so my past activities do not mater..BUT should something happen to me and i have my phone with me...and "they" have the ability to track my movements ( like in the CSI shows) then im all for it really...could end up saving my life..
I'm sure this technology can be put to good uses, but it can also be abused. Right now, the Michigan State Police have devices that will download and decrypt all the information on your cell phone. You may not have anything to hide, but what if you were recently at a party and there are some embarrassing pictures in your phone? Those pictures are no longer private, they now belong to the police. What if there is a picture of you pretending to smoke a joint? Maybe you snapped a nude picture of your wife or girlfriend? It's a question of the breach of the fourth amendment, which protects citizens from unlawful search and seizure.
I do have a cell phone. I refuse all of Verizon's offers to upgrade me to a new phone. My phone does not have a camera nor does it have a GPS device. It is old, simple, and reliable. Considering what the newer phones do and the information they store, I'll keep my old phone until it no longer functions. At that point, I might go back to a pair of tin cans and a length of string.

Next time you are involved in illicit sex or drug dealing, or knock off the local ATM, this will be a reminder to leave your phone at home!
Although, at some point, you will be marked as a potential criminal only if you didn't carry your Personal Communicator, 24/7!
For myself, I wish Big Brother would get on and assemble a comprehensive profile for me, which extends beyond trying to sell me Viagra by email...

Actually, I think, truth be known, every cell/mobile device keeps a running record of where its been based on towers that have been used in staying connected to their associated networks.
I Dunno, just sayin. I'm sure the information can be accessed as has been proved by police reports indicating that the last known use of a victim's cell was at position xyz.

Yep...you don't need an iphone,android smartphone...just a bog standard mobile phone. Your location can be assessed easily. There was a murder trial in Dublin a few years ago and this is how the perpetrator was caught...by triangulating his position as his mobile phone automatically synced up with mobile phone transmitters.

This is reason #126 why I enjoy living off the grid and will not buy a cellphone. Not only do I like my privacy, I also don't want the Police or my government knowing how I spend my days.
BTW...The only reason why anyone remembers that Rockwell song is because Michael Jackson sang most of the chorus. I think they were childhood friends from Gary, Indiana or something like that, and Michael did him a favor. (Jermaine Jackson also sang backup vocals) A lot of people mistakenly think it's a Jackson tune, and seeing as how this was just after Thriller, the song sold like hotcakes because Jackson had the Midas touch and was bigger than Jesus.

The technology to be able to track is one thing... but the fact that all of it from all of us IS being recorded & has been for quite some time now is interesting as well as rather disturbing.
Fact: after 911 we all became suspects.

By now every city and some rural areas have had enhanced 911 for years. Dialing 911 alone will show your address. But it's what we do and why we do it that needs to be considered. With Apple I agree that it is the recording thing and perhaps the app in general that gets me. To me querying the system to locate my cell in a suspicious or emergent circumstance has sufficient value to allow that service to exist. Even storing that event for a period of time against possible future similar needs is OK too. However I just steam out the ears when this sort of secret profiteering by business comes to light. What else are they up to? Sometimes I think they don't even know but they do it just because they can, and hope it will sometime lead to a profit. And the hackers are no different. They'll grab the info and try to turn a profit too.

I would assume, if real, that it also taps the buyers phone and all the people he or she talks to as well. Couldn't pass up a business opportunity like that could they. Probably took over the world in 13.62 hours or so. We're doomed. Guess I'll play FS.
