Are there any Flight Dynamics GURU's here? Inquire within. PLEASE

Piglets SUS 4P Scofa needs some lovin. It's in dire need of someone skilled in flight dynamics that can tune it up, and tame this beast. But not too tame!! It has a seriously violent roll/yaw issue.

This is one fun airplane!!

Any takers? Please :)

Doesn't Piglet make his own really good flight dynamics?
Don't know the real plane but it looks like it should have roll/yaw issues.
If you have a RW manual and/or pilot reports that would help with trouble shooting...

I fly an ex-USMC SUS 4P Scofa on weekends. The pitch/roll issues are modeled perfectly in Piglet's version.

LOL! I fly one too, right out of my imaginary hangar, every day. Well, given it's highly experimental configuration, some stability issue is to be expected, as it would on a real airframe. I think Piglet did manage to model that quite well.

There are a couple of options.

1. You can turn down the aileron sensitivity in the game.
Options/settings/display/controls/

or

2. Open up the aircraft.cfg and make this change:

[flight_tuning]
cruise_lift_scalar=1.00000
parasite_drag_scalar=1.00000
induced_drag_scalar=1.00000
elevator_effectiveness=1.00000
aileron_effectiveness= 1.2 //1.00000
rudder_effectiveness=0.3 //1.00000
pitch_stability=1.00000
roll_stability=1.5 //1.000
yaw_stability=2.0 //1.0000
elevator_trim_effectiveness=1.00000
aileron_trim_effectiveness=1.00000
rudder_trim_effectiveness=1.00000
p_factor_on_yaw =0.50000
torque_on_roll =0.50000
hi_alpha_on_roll=1.00000
hi_alpha_on_yaw=1.00000
gyro_precession_on_roll=1.00000
gyro_precession_on_yaw=1.00000

Let me know if the works for you.

BR's,
mal

Cool little plane! Nice job Piglet!

It has roll/yaw issues alright. If these are like a real world aircraft ( I'm doubtful) it would be a death trap. Denny, in all my searching, the only reference I can find with any relevance to this model, is this model. Either that or you're saying you ride pigs? A mascot?

Not entirely doubting your word, but If there is indeed a real world Sus Scofa, I'd love to see photos

check what I posted above and try those settings.

remember, every system and game settings are different. these changes were made quickly and on the fly (no pun intended)

they are based on how i like my planes to fly in the sim. they are not going to mimic how the real aircraft behaves because I have no idea how it does.

make the changes, say what you think it needs and we'll make those adjustments accordingly.

Will do. I'll try it right now and report back!

Not bad Mal. Not bad at all actually. I like the settings you've done.
.....But for me, the way it responds is very controllable, I like borderline wicked for responsiveness.

I think;

Elevator needs more throw
Ailerons need more throw, and faster roll rate for aileron and barrel rolls

ok, that shouldn't be too diificult...

as I said before these are done in 5 minutes...try'em and adjust them to your liking.

elevator_effectiveness=1.5
aileron_effectiveness= 1.5 //1.00000
rudder_effectiveness=0.3 //1.00000
pitch_stability=1.00000
roll_stability=1.1 //1.000
yaw_stability=2.0 //1.0000
elevator_trim_effectiveness=1.00000

BTW, I looked past the call for Gurus... :)

Will do Mal. Thanks for taking the time to tweak this thing for me. I'm having a ball from tower view. It reminds me of flying my R/C planes out at the flying field. The fly-by sounds, are a rush!! :icon_lol:

(Tim the toolman Taylor voice) More power. ArHHH :icon_lol:

Here's my finals

[flight_tuning]
cruise_lift_scalar=1.00000
parasite_drag_scalar=1.00000
induced_drag_scalar=1.00000
elevator_effectiveness=1.5 //1.00000
aileron_effectiveness=1.5 //1.00000
rudder_effectiveness=0.5 //1.00000
pitch_stability=1.00000
roll_stability=1.2 //1.00000
yaw_stability=2.0 //1.00000
elevator_trim_effectiveness=1.00000
aileron_trim_effectiveness=1.00000
rudder_trim_effectiveness=1.00000
p_factor_on_yaw=0.50000
torque_on_roll=0.50000
hi_alpha_on_roll=1.00000
hi_alpha_on_yaw=1.00000
gyro_precession_on_roll=1.00000
gyro_precession_on_yaw=1.00000

A little smoke effect added from the Iris Christen Eagle and I'm in like Flin :)
