Looking for TBM Avenger.

There is a fare few of them around but does anyone know of a nice TBM Avenger I can download for CFS2. Would kind of like one with a decent VC...using for carrier based bombing and Torpedo op's.

Oh, that's much better. Had looked for these but couldn't find them....thanks for your help there Ed....and of course "The B24 Guy".:mixedsmi:

Thanks UT....I kind of like flying some VC and the working instruments in front of me. I have some of your scenery enhancements on board. Can't believe the work that has been added to this sim over the years.

I'm getting a bit of a roll to the right with this one. Anyone else noticed it. Could be any number of things causing it.??

I've used The B-24 Guy's conversion in several missions and have never noticed any roll problems. You can also download the TBM Avenger by 1%. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/page.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=14773 The sound folder is aliased to the 1% SB2C: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/page.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=14772 .

Yeah...I have had the 1% plane for ages, just can't get enough speed or lift to get it off a carrier deck.

I'll do a bit of file swap experimenting I think...could even be the joystick calibration to?

To be continued.

Yeah...it's in the air file somewhere. Have found a replacement for it amongst some other avenger downloads.

Try this: One increment of flaps, set your park brake, pull back on the stick (to keep from tipping over), rev up to full power and hit WEP. Release the brakes and ease up on the stick. Hit G as soon as you start rolling, so the gear will come up as soon as you clear the flight deck and reduce drag. :icon29:

There are severial things that were done in real life to get the Avenger into the air.On long flights with amo and ordinace the plane was at max weight so the pilots would lock the brakes, by that I mean to stand on the brakes, and bring the power up as much as they could. When they got the wave to takeoff they would start there roll add power and as speed picked up they would start to lower there flapes and once over the water they would bring up there gear and start to milk up there flapes. This workes using the 1% Avenger.

The problem with CFS2 is that unless you put wind into the mission and check the speed of the carrier you are going to have a real problem getting off the deck. Everytime I build a carrier mission I have to check the speed of the carrier because sometimes the MB will but it in at 16kts and that is to slow, you will need at least 25 kts to get some of the planes off the deck.[Just checked to mack sure I could do it with a 1% TBM and it worked fine with a torpedo takingoff half way up the deck.]

Wind over the deck

Carrier captains always tried to get their ships into the wind prior to launch. This of course helped planes get into the air much more reliably.

We can do this in CFS 2, although it takes an extra step in the mission building process. For those interested, check out page 132 of Cody Coyote's Mission Building tutorial (it's here in the archive).

By doing so, you'll get that Avenger off the deck without fail.

Thanks for those tips guys. I'd tried most of those STOL take off techniques with no luck on the 1%plane with or without weapon load and it just splashed down every time. I don't know why I didn't think of it (getting old and stupid I guess) but using the WEP for the short takeoff did the trick.

The 1% plane I have doesn't have much of a VC in it. So I might swap the air file over to the B24 guy OH model and see what happens.:wavey:

The 1% Avenger is based on the stock MS Avenger just like the B-24 Guys' Avenger. You can swap several files back and forth between the two. If you are going to use it for AI though, remember that the 1% air file is usually too complex for CFS 2 to use properly. It is best to use the B-24 Guys files for that or an even better solution is to use the stock air file for a dedicated AI Avenger. Personally, I think the B-24 Guys files are the best compromise.

I've done a bit of re-calibrating of my flight control set, back with B24 guys file set. Seems to be working well now. Ran the roll damage fix on the dp, that helped a bit to.

Poor Musashi and Yamato.

They were built for the cataclysmic encounter between the US Navy battle line and the IJN battle line that never came. Had they been with the southern force in the Leyte operation (Sho Go 1), perhaps they would have justified their designers' efforts. While the Yamato did fire its main guns in anger at the US escort carriers of Taffy 3 off of Samar, neither ship ever justified the tons of steel, yen and sweat that went into their construction.

They were though, along with the Iowa Class BBs, the finest looking big gun ships ever to sail.

Just a note about the TBF and M. Durring combat the seat behind the pilot was never used infact later in the war the seat was replaced by radio and other gear. Also the 1% TBM does real well even getting off the stock CFS2 carriers when tackingoff from amidships if you use the correct tech. to do it.I havent had to change a thing with the 1% TBM inorder to get it off a carrier.

Hi All,
Try taking off from a "Jeep Carrier" with one of these bad boys fully loaded. You either have to use the catapult set-up or the whole deck using the aforementioned techniques.
