  • Server side Maintenance is done. We still have an update to the forum software to run but that one will have to wait for a better time.

Sea Fire gear up landing........

This happened last weekend, when the landing gear failed to come down, while the aircraft was in Fance. The pilot at the time was Anna Walker. She did an expert job of pulling off a perfect forced belly-landing, resulting in the least amount of damage to the aircraft that could have been sustained.

It should hopefully be up and flying again by next year.
 
Looks like she left the engine running. I always thought you were supposed to shut it off to minimalize damage to it from the prop striking the ground.
 
That's a real shame and explains why she wasn't at Yeovilton today, unlike me ...:d

looks like the prop was made out of wood....all the blades broke off...

I thought engine off too but if it is wood blades. Meh, leave it running. Wood won't stand a change or do much damage VS how bad thing could be if tried with no engine.
 
The aircraft definitely sustained damage, but all things considered, it doesn't look too bad. Looks like a good job on the belly landing, it could have been much worse.
 
I remember some years ago when I was taking a break in the pilot's lounge with some fellow airshow staff at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum airshow in Hamilton and Howard Pardue came stomping in after he'd clipped the wooden prop tips on the then Confederate Air Force's Mk.IX Spitfire on a taxiway sign; boy was he PISSED!!! The air in there turned six shades of blue with his cussing! Worse, the CAF never got their Spit back as it was one of the aircraft lost in the CWH's big hangar fire a year or two later.

Not good news from Duxford this weekend, with the Amicale Jean Salis Skyraider colliding with P-51 "Big Beautiful Doll" - both pilots are ok (Rob Davies bailed out, the Skyraider managed to land), the Mustang rather less so.
