Very nice Sea King by UKMIL....

ok, how is this?

Nice, was just wondering about this kind of livery!

Thanks so much for this heli Gaffer, appreciate the effort!:ernae:

The one thing that really impresses me is the rotor animation, it spins like it did in FS9, not all funky clockwise, then counterclockwise like the default 206 or other FSX native birds, I LIKE THAT!

If you decide to do any updates on the model a few things I noticed that would make her even better are more precise texturing/modeling in the VC, like the window frames, wipers, pilot, etc, this would add to the immersion factor alot. She seems to have quite a bit of specular on the exterior, but it could be me and I noticed a part in the rotor texture that is showing other than the blade, but that's an easy fix.

Thanks again!!

Hmmmmm, wonder how she works as AI.......

Great Sea King, UKMil! Thanks!

I have a little problem, though. I'm missing some of the gauges, ie: the one below the airspeed indicator, the one below the fuel gauge, and the right one above the landing gear indicator panel. I'm running FSX/Acceleration. Is there another file I need to download?

Watch out for that fuel gauge!!!!

It's got a 500 gallon tank, but a 75 gallon gauge. Judging from the last few minutes of my flight, I'd guess the helo burns about 10 gallons per minute. These are three things I didn't need to find out over open ocean. :redf:

Oh, and it doesn't float, either. :isadizzy:

The real life Sea Kings do (or did) have emergency float bags....but don't believe they did much for flotation, except to slow the aircraft from sinking so quick....

indeed, they were designed to keep the helo upright, long enough to egress, which is about 10 seconds, after that it sinks

I remember using a vacuum cleaner, and reversing the flow on it to blow up the bags to verify how long they would stay inflated. Only other maintenance as an AME was, as I recall, changing the fire bottle squibs.

A Seaking once "ditched" can actually stay afloat long enough for the crew to "eject" any ordinance plus the doppler and the crew can then carry out a single engine take off from the sea if the #2 has failed, we only had this happen once, it was something to see.................not pretty for us once she landed on as we had to do the clean up.

I can't remember how long it stayed afloat but we were all watching and praying for sure, hence the boat shaped hull and sponsons. It was all a very long
time ago now. with 4 torps and he doppler I shudder to thing how much that cost with them going to the bottom.........but the important thing as always
is the crew to carry on another day.

Truly an amazing chopper.

Went I went though Aircrewman Candidate School in Pensacola (1981), several of my classmates were destined for SAR Crewman training afterwards. I wished I'd gone that route vs P-3C Flight Engineer School, as I didn't last long there. Swimming was a big part of my life growing up, and watching them train, dropping from Sea Kings at NAS Jax, was a fascinating sight.

The Seaking is pretty much fully amphibious and will stay afloat for a considerable amount of time in sea states of three and below IIRC.

Floatation bags are there to provide extra roll stability and expand the sea state survivability.

Water landings are not generally carried out due to salt corrosion and the necessasy down time afterwards to clean it all out, however the Canadians who I spoke to at length did perform fresh water landings and floating ( with and without the aid of rotor torque ) during training.

The Seaking hull is designed to be like a boat with a chimed hull and swept bow to enable it to float and transit across water like a boat upto ( I believe 10knts ).

However you wouldnt want to get on one to crosss the English channel, but Seakings float and for quite a long time depending on hull age and sea state.

The MH/CH-53 is also amphibious as is the CH-46, all will perfom water landings and not sink.

Best

As Michael says the Canadians actually practise water landings/take-offs in training, I think they're the only ones who do. If you have a poke around on the net there are a number of pictures of Kings on the water, I'm sure there's a whole series of one that had an engine failure and put down in the Bristol Channel to be recovered by, I think, Bulwark.
If I was going to ditch I'd choose the Sea King, if I wanted to beat a brick to the seabed I'd choose a Lynx.

A guy studying with me used to be a Sea King mechanic in the Marine. He did mostly rotor blade work, but still managed to get a ride in one once or twice.

His "trophy" after eight years of service was a Sea King's tail rotor blade.

UKMIL, I have a gauge issue. Do I need to download a file to get the missing gauges?

I was looking through the panel.cfg, and I can't find these gauges in the panel or the gauge folder.

What timing! I was just able to log into your website and found the patch at the same time this page was refreshing! Thanks!
