Solomon Islands / offer for scenery designers

Hi everybody,

while working on an update for FSX Solomon 1943 an idea came to my mind.
I have traced all the coastlines of the islands between the Russels and including Bougainville / Buka (over 400 islands) highly detailed and could provide a CFS2 scenery designer with the shapefiles or kmls or whatever format you guys use, if someone would like to tackle a Solomon project. I also have a complete 76m mesh for the area. I don't really know how scenery is designed in CFS2, but would like to offer it for what it's worth.
I see this as a Thanks" for members of the CFS2 community for letting me use their CFS2 objects in the FSX scenery.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark,

Thanks, what a nice gesture. We can all appreciate the sharing that goes on at the outhouse.:medals:

Unfortunately I don't know if it can be retro ported to CFS2. Ground2K is the only program I know of that will edit scenery and you can't import anything into it. Sbuilder and Autocoast are another possibility...?

Maskrider did an updated Solomons package for CFS2 recently. It sits on top of Rhumbaflappy's LOD 8 mesh. So I wonder if your mesh is more detailed and if CFS2 could even handle it without FPS problems? What's the difference between LOD 8 and 76m?

I would love to see a FSX to CFS2 portover process, but right now I don't think there is one.

Hi,

I used SBuilderX and a special workflow to import the GoogleEarth KML lines, so if there is a possibility to feed that in a CFS design program you'll have the most detailed coastlines :)
LOD8 is a ca. 160m resolution, if I recall right, that's the maximum that CFS2 can use.

Cheers,
Mark

Roger Wilco,

While I understand your heart is in the right place, I will need to respond to this issue privately, please expect a PM from me.

This is precisely what caused a fracturing of the CFS2 community several months back.
