• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

I can understand how this thread could overflow into politics even in just trying to understand what's going on but let's keep it squeaky clean as those victims deserve a thread left open, not one closed due to political overtones.

Henry,
Please read my post above and please submit your passionate beliefs to a political forum. Here at the SOH let's limit this thread to our sorrow for the victims and their families...or I will have to close this thread...which I really don't want to, ok!!!!!

Multi-culturalism isn't dead & it isn't a failed experiment - I'm a Londoner, possibly the most 'multi cultural' city in the world and it has been so for several hundred years; has it's hiccoughs but, on the whole, I like it!

But if you say it has failed, then you are letting this creature & all the other hate-filled individuals (from whichever part of the spectrum they come from) win; and for the sake of the people who dies at his hands, and at the hands of others, we can never let him win, it would be an insult to their memory. In London, on 8/7/2005, we picked ourselves up, brushed ourselves down, and got back on the tubes, ba.ck on the buses - by doing that the hate filled individuals who had killed so many the previous day were robbed of their victory

Well said, Andy! :salute:

Interesting facts: In Europe just 8% of citizens give 'Islam' as their religion. We may presume that a very tiny minority of that faith group will ever be Islamist fundamentalists.

The nation with the greatest number of mosques: The United States.

In both Europe and the USA the right to practice whatever religion you choose, as long as it does not harm other people, is fundamental to our political and social systems. (Thanks to 18th century rationalists who probably didn't believe in any gods).

Being crazy is one thing. Being crazy and having a lot of guns & ammunition, quite another.

What seems most worrying about Breivik is that all his confused ramblings & misunderstanding of history are remarkably similar to those of one A. Hitler who, less than a century ago, managed to take over one of the most advanced & civilized countries in the world. The Breivik/Hitler perception then quickly became state policy. Nazi Germany was entirely geared towards racism; look what happened.

It is important that we all make sure that such things never, ever occur again, anywhere.

You gotta love those photo editors that somehow manage to capture just the right still image from a video to show the subject in the most unflattering manner possible! :icon_lol:

I'm referring to the still photo of Beck, of course...

With due respect to all contributors I believe the thread is moving into political sidelines where I don't want it to go.

RIP all those Norwgians who died so needlessly.
