I received these illustrations and info from a friend of mine who keeps abreast with things happening in the current military/aviation world. But I pause to think if this is one be hoax or one big pipe dream by the Chinese. What's your thoughts on this potential Chinese super carrier?

THIS IS QUANTUM LEAP ABOVE ANYTHING WE HAVE ON THE DRAWING BOARD. THEY HAVETHOUGHT " OUTSIDE THE BOX " ON THIS ONE. BETTER SPEED, LARGER CAPACITY,MUCH MORE STABLE, ETC. DEFINITELY A " BLUE-WATER " LONG REACH VESSEL.
PLUS THEY CAN SERVICE THEIR NUKE SUB FLEET IN-BETWEEN THE TWIN HULLS ( SIGHTUNSEEN ) OR EVEN LAUNCH AMPHIBIOUS OPPSFROM SAME. IT WILL BE LAUNCHED INHALF THE TIME IT TAKES THE USA AT JUST ONE-THIRD THE COST. ADD THE NEWCHINESE STEALTH FIGHTER BOMBER ( NAVAL VERSION ALREADY FLIGHT TESTING ) INTHE MIX AND YOU HAVE THE MAKINGS OF A FORMIDABLE WEAPONS SYSTEM INDEED..

ALSO LOOK AT THAT EXTRA ''PARKING AND READINESS'' STATION BETWEEN BOTH HULLSTRUCTURES.. AND OF COURSE THE LAUNCHING AND LANDING CAPABILITIES FROM THEUTILISATION OF TWIN FLIGHT DECKS AT ONCE.
 
pipe dream ... i reckon when we do see a carrier from them, it'll follow more convential designs, or be a copy of a US one. Prolly right on the 1/3 of the cost though! :icon_lol:
 
They actually do have one undergoing sea trials. I think they bought a used Russian one from Turkey and overhauled it.
 
They've got one that the Russians never completed that they are finishing. Looks nothing like that.

The purchase of the second hand carrier is more inline with the PRoC. Patient, patient, patient....they'll outwait all their conflicting neighbours and buy whatever they want one brick at a time. The most efficient shopkeepers in the world, the philosophy is, " I will not be wealthy in my lifetime, but my grandson will be....and my great grandson will rule everything."

There will never be a war over Taiwan. That island will rejoin when their international support has faltered under financial default, and mainland China has become the most comfortable and sensible economic option. ( It's not even close to that yet....but...one brick at a time.)

Expect modest navy ships built at home, and big ones bought off the second hand fleets and run through the refit. Guarenteed to intimidate that pesky Phillipino fishing fleet.

China's best weapon has turned out to be debt free money. Who makes you more afraid, a soldier or a loan shark?
 
It seems China is very active in the South China see.They always see the USA as a threat to them.The political status of Taiwan is a factor Details have begun to emerge of a "kill weapon" developed by the Chinese to target and destroy U.S. aircraft carriers.

The range of the modified Dong Feng 21 missile is significant in that it covers the areas that are likely hot zones for future confrontations between U.S. and Chinese surface forces.

Along with the Chinese naval build-up, U.S. Navy officials appear to view the development of the anti-ship ballistic missile as a tangible threat.

In recent years, China has been expanding its navy to presumably better exert itself in disputed maritime regions. A recent show of strength in early March led to a confrontation with an unarmed U.S. ship in international waters.

We expressed great concern in WW2 when the Japanese ,put out their super Battle Ship the "Yamato'.. Yamato was designed to counter the numerically superior battleship fleet of the United...then like now,it should our unpreparedness...however,later,we sunk that ship!..but carriers are the thing...we can of course disable any carrier in the world...More like a status symbol for Chinia...I think!...but Missals??? that's a weapon to contend with!!


Makes one go back in history to Germany in the 30s.....the more things change ,the more it stays the same.......Yaaa its a Dangerous world out there!!<label for="rb_iconid_15">

It is one thing to have a carrier, but they do not have the operational history and developed skills of a naval aviator program. It is one thing to land between a set of painted lines on the ground and quite a different and more difficult one to do it on a heaving carrier deck during a night time storm. That is a steep and expensive learning curve in aircraft and pilot's lives.

The rear helo decks, hope they don't have to fire those weapons while bringing in a landing chopper!
 
The US, UK and Japan were more advanced in carrier aviation by 1930 than the Chinese are now or will be five years from now. This mega-carrier is a beautiful piece of computer-graphic art but that's about it. Just wait until they do their first carrier quals with that "pre-owned" Russian carrier. They better have some good SAR helo crews. :icon_lol:
 
Yer Correct NORAB...yes they can copy ,steal,try to duplicate,but on thing they cannot do...is try to Copy,and absorb, the long ,proven ,experience,and tradition of US NAVEL AVIATORS...that's fer sure!......In history The Japanese had it briefly.for one day,.but soon lost it decisively..Thats fer sure!
 
That graphic is a "what if" like many designs seen posted from the periphery of Chinese Defense information sources. It's highly unlikely they would build such a design which would take both an unrealistic amount of time, resources, and money to complete and then operate. The real Chinese Aircraft Carrier is named She Lang which is the old Varyag of the Kuznetsov Class(formerly Riga, then Brezhnev, then Tbilisi Class) Carriers at the end of the Soviet Era. The Varyag was the second ship of the class which ran dry of completion funds after the Soviet Era. The ship lay in storage until it was purchased by a so called private travel agency in Macau which was really a front for the PLA/N. I remember well the controversy regarding the sale of the ship which was claimed would be converted into a floating casino/hotel. At that point and time, China did not have any Carrier capable aircraft and there were not many J-11's in service by that point. No one put much stock in China getting the former Varyag finished and obtaining the aircraft to fly off of it. But it proved exactly what some warned, a thinly veiled move to get China into the Carrier ballgame. It is claimed that they have been secretly training their pilots off the Kuznetsov and from their own FCLP facilities in workup flying their new J-15 fighters(copy of the SU-33). So far, it seems the first crop of PLA/N Carrier Pilots completed their Carrier Quals perfectly and above par according to Russian sources. At this point the size up indicates that the She Lang will likely deploy next year with a limited number of J-15's and AEW and ASW variants of the Kamov helicopters. The lack of long range AEW/ASW fixed wing aircraft could be supplanted/augmented by Land Based AEW/ASW Aircraft but the limitations of the SU-33 platform as the sole Combat Aircraft of the She Lang will place significant limitations on the Carrier's Projection Level and Radius. It's a major step for China but it is the beginning and they have a long way to go in the Carrier game. I strongly suspect any subsequent PLA/N Carriers will be an all new class with lessons learned from operational experience from this one.
