After seeing a post of the Steve Myers ST-C over at TOH, I realized how much I enjoyed that model in FS 2004 and wondered how it it would behave in FSX. As one can imagine, not so good. The gauges were incompatible and the prop texture needed work. One thing led to another and well here is a FSX version.

The textures are all DDS and the prop texture FSX friendly. All the gauges have been replaced I know it's a port over but I think it came out okay, but I let you all be the judge. Only bug I can't get beyond is starting from the VC cold when loaded in the sim for the first time Ctrl+E gets her going and then she's good for the duration, starting with the mag switch. She's a much fun to fly as I remembered.

Oh well, the price is right. Steve Meyers was one hell of a designer and I wonder what ever happened to him. He worked with us for a while and moved on.

Here's some FSX screen shots.

Dear Paul

Wonderful THANKS

Roland

just tiny issues-->FSX SP2 ACC Win 7 64-->VC looks like this

The Prop still cuts out the trees and the panel texture looking from outside REAR(not front)View attachment 51234 cuts through the glass

oh well, such is life. I'm only running an unaccelerated version so I guess we can say that its not compatible with acceleration.

Unfortunately you are right.
I have these issues with ACC.
Good for those without ACC.

The prop issue can only be corrected via the source code and remapping the prop disc. However, for the VC, look in the panel.cfg file and scroll to the first VC annotation, change the color=0,0,0 to color=1,1,1 and see if that corrects the blank area.

Hello Spad

Steven Meyers, yes, I remember this gentlemen quite well. Steven and I shared emails many times back in my latter FS9 days. I got to know him fairly well from a flight sim perspective, and came to realize rather quickly that he enjoyed modeling the older types. And he did a fine job in doing so. Our conversations led him to sharing with me many models he had made and released. And some he did not release. If I recall correctly he even shared the source on a few of them with me.

I tried my darnedest to get him interested in modeling again. Steven replied once, reflecting on how, when FSX was released, the modeling had changed, and that he didn't want to learn everything again to keep up. That he wasn't the caliber of modeler to compete.

After that we spoke a few other times. Then, no response anymore.

Ok, first off, very nice airplane. I was impressed with the interior especially and the fix for the VC "I think" is relatively simple. However, as you can see, the result was an unexpected one. I loaded the VC texture into DXTbmp and then into Paint Shop Pro. There was no distortion going from one to the other. The bitmap is floating on a background that is solid black (0,0,0) so I simply painted in the section below the panel with a 10,10,10 black, saved it back to DXTbmp and saved (I saved as 32bit where it had been 16bit DXT1). the result is seen in the screenshot. could my save option have distorted the bitmap?

Anyway, if I can resolve that little oddity, then this can easily be fixed and after looking in FSPanel Studio, it appears there is even room in that area to add extra avionics, woohoo, lol.

Still not understanding how this became that distorted and nothing I try fixes the problem. Pretty frustrating knowing I have one problem fixed only to discover a new one. It has to be something in the transfer from one program to another, but I see nothing visibly that tells me that any distortion has taken place.:isadizzy:

Well, I'm done for the night. The distortion, while not visible in any way shape or form occurs during either the transfer from DXTbmp to the paint program or in the resulting transfer back to DXTbmp after alterations. I took an untouched VC bitmap and did nothing more than move it out of DXTbmp to PSP and back again. Saved to the format it was loaded in and went into FSX and the bitmap is distorted.

I attempted to manipulate the bitmap in PSP by squeezing, saving and loading into FSX and after 7 or 8 tries I was very close to the correct proportions, however the bitmap had deteriorated to the point that it was unusable. I really don't know why it's occurring, and unless someone has a reason for this happening and a way to correct the distortion, I see no reason to pursue it any further. It's a nice airplane but not worth the time it has already entailed.

Falcon, Thanks for your efforts and I agree that is not worth the effort to run all these issues to ground. It's a nice little plane and for those that can use it its a treat. I guess this means that someday GAS will have to build an FSX native. <label for="rb_iconid_24">

I've posted a lengthy description of the problem over at FSDeveloper to see if anyone there recognizes the symptoms. The only thing that even comes close to making sense as to why it is happening is that the designer has somehow coded this bitmap so that any tampering causes a distortion and makes it unusable. That seems absolutely ridiculous, but any more, not out of the realm of possibility. Apparently no one here has any idea, so I'm hoping the Brainiacs over at FSDeveloper will find a solution or at least have an explanation as to WHY!!!

40 views and no replies at FSDeveloper, so they are either uninterested or the right person hasn't seen the post yet. In the meantime I might have this figured out. This time I loaded the bitmap into PSP8 via DXTbmp, but instead of reloading back into DXTbmp for the conversion I saved it first back to the panel folder as a bitmap and then converted it from there. I don't know why it worked, but it did. The panel you see is one I drew using the original as a template. Next, I'll try the original, but it does look promising.

Ok, it works. Just a note though, for the purists among us, it isn't perfect as shown in the image close-up of the exterior. . .you have a prop disc and panel placeholder that knock out autogen; also from the interior view that placeholder knocks out both the prop animation as well as the center post for the windscreen. Other than that it ports pretty well. I took it up and did a circuit, it handles nicely, looks great in the air and from the VC and landing was smooth. Just for grins I'm going to completely redo the VC panel so that things match and it's a better resolution. I'm also going to play with the lower portion of the panel to see if avionics can be placed there just to use up the blank space.
