Warbirdsim - Winter Sale - Now!

Well, I bought it at PC Aviator, but I guess I won't be buying anything 'ever' again, since I won't pay the full asking price. Too rich for my blood.

If you don't own any of the Warbirdsim P-51s then this deal is almost to good to be true. Unfortunately I DO already own three of them, all wonderful (especially the restored Ds) and all bought full-price. I don't regret it because they've given me such pleasure, and still do, but I hope that one day WBS might consider sweeteners for existing customers. One company gave me a discount for owning the FS9 version of their current product.

Wow, I am able to get the set! One of my credit cards just got an upgrade. Couldn't pass this set up.

Thanks Albert and John.

Deal went quickly. Recieved download instructions within minutes. Downloading now. Looking forward to flying these soon.:jump:

Ryan, the products are all by download only at this time, with an e-mail with the download link sent immediately following the completion of an order.

BUYER BEWARE!!!

BUYER BEWARE!!!! THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!

I just wasted $16.00 (the price difference between the FSX only and package deal) finding out that there are not actually 28 aircraft available in FSX as Warbirdsim's website alludes too, there are only 10. This is just the FS9 and FSX packages being sold together, with some (possibly intentional) ambiguous marketing. Congratulations Warbirdsim, I guess I was the sucker born that minute, but I guarantee you will not see another dime of mine.

"For a very limited time only we are offering P-51 Mustang Fighter Leader FSX together with Fighter Leader FS9 parts 1 & part 2 which Features the DF loops and Dorsal Fillet versions, all in one purchase. That is 28 aircraft in total!"

That is the first paragraph on the product page. Sounds pretty clear to me.

The original question posed by jankees:
“hang on, this fighter leader pack, that's only for FS9, or is it now for FSX as well?”
The answer supplied by kilo delta:
“For both...see http://www.warbirdsim.com/Content.do...&content=specs

Your right, that is the first paragraph. It says “together.” Then the page continues for over 330 lines of description in which all products are listed “together,” insinuating that they can be reached at the same point, i.e. FSX.
Never once, does the product description differentiate between the FS9 and FSX components. The product links do not lead back to the original segregation, nor does the layout of the page represent which version is which, but rather quite the opposite, it appears that all versions are available in both sims. The question was even asked on this forum, and apparently answered incorrectly (much to my dismay). The forum is being read and watched by representatives from Warbirdsim, and yet no effort to correct the mistake was made.

I can see how it could be possible to get mixed up, but I don't think it is fair to blame WBS. They clearly state right off the bat that some are for FS9 and some are for FSX. They say the word "together" because they are being sold in a package. Not once do they say that they will work together in the same sim. When KD said "For both", he was saying the collective fighter leader limited edition package is for both FS9 and FSX.

Ok then, point out exactly where is says some are for FSX, and some are for FS9. I even included the text for you. The term FS9 is listed exactly twice in the whole document. The first time is in the previously aforementioned first sentence. Funny thing, almost every other package I have ever seen that has both FS9 and FSX versions, has the same content apart from sim limitations. In this case, the creator has decided to package two different sets and allude that they are the same.

The P-51 Mustang Fighter Leader Collection

WINTER WARMERS - TIME LIMITED OFFER

For a very limited time only we are offering P-51 Mustang Fighter Leader FSX together with Fighter Leader FS9 parts 1 & part 2 which Features the DF loops and Dorsal Fillet versions, all in one purchase. That is 28 aircraft in total!

Take control of the Warbirdsim P-51B, P-51C and Mustang III on your PC. Strap yourself in and begin those high-G turns in an aircraft meticulously designed and built for speed and agility.
The 3 Mustang P-51 aircraft you will fly in FSX are the asynchronous whole of a breed of fighter made for low-level tactics such as reconnaissance and high-level dogfighting.

Represented in this definitive work of this rare and unique model of the thoroughbread fighter are a host of details from the small but significant to the spectacular.
This is as close as you will get to flying the real P-51 in FSX.

An excellent cross section of different colours; as worn by the real Mustangs in service.

SPECIAL RENDERING & LIGHTING FX
Making use of the additional features in FSX, the unique bump texturing adds authenticity to an already-wonderful and detailed, 3d model and the reflective textures make the bare metal aircraft almost translucent as they reflect their virtual, rendered light! New additional items include an updated, authentically-designed Pilots Manual giving details of the special features of the model (and carefully designed to emulate the oil-stained cartridge used at the time).

INCLUDED IN THIS PACKAGE

It very clearly says in the first sentence that the FS9 packages are included in the set. I am done arguing with you. You can try to blame someone else all you want but the fault is all yours.

The first sentence says there are three packages, one for FSX and two for FS9. That has NEVER been in dispute. The problem is, and has always been, that the ENTIRE description then leads one to believe that they have the SAME COMPONENTS. They do not have the same components, which is a misrepresentation on the MARKETERS part. I was fooled by this, and wished to inform others of the same to PREVENT further confusion.

It's marketing 101.

What part of that don’t you understand?

Warbirdsim is possibly on the verge of my becoming customer for the first time but I have to say their web site and "product differentiation" ARE quite muddled, so possibly not.

I am am interested in the P-51B/C models BUT I cannot really tell the difference between the "Limited Edition" "P51 Flight Leader" for £34.95 - which appears to have Fs9 aircraft mixed in, which is not what one would normally expect or desire VS. the normal P51/B "Flight Leader" download for £24.95. I really dislike marketing using similar/interchangeable qualitative descriptions e.g. a choice between the "Wing Commander" pack vs. the "Squadron Leader" pack, and then not be explicit about any overlap or other unusual aspects (FS9 mixed with FSX - why not throw in some FS2002 for notalgia sake?), where the precise description of the variation of models and specs for a particular aircraft matter so much to the customer. It might not be intended, but it leaves the consumer with doubt as to whether this is to obfuscate in the interest of generating sales.

By contrast, when the RAZBAM Skyhawks and the AS Phantoms came out, it was very straight forward that there was a numerical sequence of packages, e.g. "pack 1", "pack 2" (not childish descriptions like "Sky Pilots", "Jet Jocks", etc) AND it was very straightforward as to which packs included which models so you could easily tell e.g. if there were any of the same models in different packs. Mixing FS9 and FSX is generally not common as for the majority it is apples vs. oranges and one normally expects the FSX and FS9 product lines to match whereas here they do not appear to at least for B/C aircraft. Lastly, clicking on the "Limited Editions" and then "Flight Leader" (unhelpfully vague describing it as just "P-51" whereas the one above says "P-51D"), when I then go to "view specs", it goes to a page for the P-51D "Little Friends."

Sitting on the sidelines.

Let me see if I can clarify:

if you are interested in the B/C model, AND you only fly in FSX, then you should take the FSX Fighter Leader for FSX, for 24.95 pounds.
The more expensive Limited Edition Fighter Leader version for 34.95 pounds has the same package for FSX, but also includes two different packages for FS2004.

If it is the P-51D you after, so far there are two packages of modern-day, restored P-51D's (for 24.95 and 27.95), and one package of WWII aircraft, the Little Friends package (for 29.95), with one additional WWII pack, containing the D-5 model, on the way.
If you want all of the presently available D models, the limited edition P-51D is a good idea at 39.95, however if you are only interested in either the WWII version, or the modern warbirds, buying just one of the packs might be a better option, but that depends on your own interests, and the depth of your wallet...

I agree that the website is not the clearest available, but the models are very nice, or at least I think so.

If you are interested in my repaints, there are a lot for the B/C model, a few for the P-51D part 1, none at all for part 2, and quite a few for the Little Friends package.

Hope this helps?

Jankees,

That is clarifies things perfectly. All makes sense now. With the number of restored Mustangs it also makes sense to offer the present day restored as well as the historically accurate WWII versions - yet another variable - and there are fans of each (or both).

Will now proceed to checkout. Have been an admirer of your paints and screenies posted here for many years.

Keep them coming.

Here is the breakdown of the products, as sold through the two groupings. Each individual product is of course sold separately as well, so it depends on what you are individually looking for. I should also remind everyone, that "Little Friends II", the P-51D-5-NA focused product that I have been showing screenshots and providing descriptions of, will be released sometime this week. As with all things, "Little Friends II", which will be the newest addition, will be the finest set released thus far.

P-51D Limited Edition
All of these products are for FSX only. There was never any intention for repaints to be made of the restored examples, but repaints for the "Little Friends" and the up-coming "Little Friends II" products is fully supported. An extensive repaint kit is available by contacting me via PM, for the "Little Friends" product. I will be offering the same service with "Little Friends II", the P-51D-5-NA set. You can read on the individual product pages for each of these P-51D products, what sets each variant apart from each other within each individual product, in sometimes very extensive detail, down to "nuts and bolts" level of differences, with between the various products, four different propeller types, three different canopy types (will be four with the introduction of Little Friends II), and all sorts of different cockpits/wheel wells/internal finishes depending on the individual restoration/original factory procedures, so sitting in one cockpit, or looking up into the wheel well of one example, is different than another.

P-51D Restored Part 1 - features seven different Mustangs as they fly today. Each single model is different, inside and out, to specifically match each individual restored example depicted (each also varies depending on what production model of the P-51D is being reproduced).

-P-51D (CA-18 Mk.23) RAAF Museum A68-170
-P-51D-25NA 'Moose/Candyman'

P-51D Little Friends – features eight individual Mustangs as they were in WWII. These are the most advanced/perfected Mustangs released to date. Included is a standardized-WWII era P-51D (with various paint schemes), an Iwo Jima P-51D, and an RAF P-51K, with all of the different changes that make them unique to their types, including different drop tanks based on their assignments, different mirror-configurations based on how they were modified in the field, and different (adjustable) exhaust shroud configurations, also based on how each was modified individually in the field. This product is also unique from all of the rest, as it has a fully reproduced (unlike ever before!) left gunbay (which will also be featured in "Little Friends II").

P-51 Fighter Leader Limited Edition
This product is only really suitable for those flying in both FS9 and FSX (though if you would really want to, the FS9 models port into FSX well enough), as both Fighter Leader products are really one in the same, one developed for FS9, and the other developed for FSX. A repaint kit is available for these aircraft by simply letting me know you are interested in one, via PM. These are quite old, and I have been working, on again/off again, on a complete re-building of the B/C's. I'll have something to show early in 2012, along with what is being developed side-by-side with the new B/C's.

John, thanks.

The set I want contains the aircraft models and paints in the "P-51B/C Flight Leader II" set. Any particular reason this was produced for FS9 but not FSX? Shame, as it seems to include the most developed set of models, but only for an earlier version of the sim (usually the other way 'round). In any event I like the dorsal fin/Malcolm hood paints and models it has best - very sharp!

Regards,
