New de Havilland Venom FB1/4 available (freeware)

Fantastic Model Rob-Thank you!

First time I engaged the auotpilot I shot up like a rocket!!!
Noticed when engaged the Vertical Speed is default to 2000FPM!

In the Autopilot in the .cfg file change this line to: default_vertical_speed=700 ( or what ever you want)

I find 700 FPM is perfect

Thanks again for a great model-lot of hours went into the making of this plane

Venom FB 4
Rate of climb: 9,000 ft/min (45.7 m/s) so why is 2000fpm way to high ??? I would say 700 fpm is way to low it is a Fighter after all.

I generally don't fly jets of any kind. But this is an exception. Very Nice Mr. Richardson.

Thank You!!

Hi Rick,
For its day the Venom had a phenomenal rate of climb, as Rich has pointed out it could initially achieve 9,000 ft/min, this was back in the early 50’s, not quite up to Eurofighter/F18 standards but still pretty good.Don't forget that although it was basically a Vampire fuselage the rear end had to be enlarged and lengthened to allow the “Ghost” to be fitted, bit like trying to squeeze an American V8 into a British Mini! but the huge power increase gave a corresponding performance boost.
As Rich has already said 700 ft/min is way too low!

Thanks Rob , another beauty course the on hire aircraft from the RAF to the RNZAF would be a breeze to do :salute:

Hi Ian,
Peter Watkins has already produced a RNZAF re-paint, along with quite a few other schemes.
All will be available at Britsim very soon.

Sorry guys but I'm a little bit lost here.
Wasn't there a FSX-native Vampire already released several months ago ? What is the difference with this one ?

Venom != Vampire, although they look similar there were enough alterations to the design to make the Vampire a new aircraft.

Venom and Vampire are 2 entirely different aircraft except in first looks, you need to look at wikedpeia or whatever for clues, the Venom released by Rob is not a Vampire with better textures.

Wikipedia is I think a pile of junk amended by people who know no better.

Mucho cool. Thanks!

At least that piece of junk doesn't take away space in bookshelves. And following crosslinks is much more comfortable.

Many a night has been spent on this glorious webpage of knowledge.

When thinkin Vampire to Venom, think Grumman Panther to Cougar. They are cosely related but at the same time totally different animals. Took her for a ride through the Alps last night, wasnt expecting such a massive perfomance increase over the Vamp, pleasantly suprised :applause:

I find it a very useful resource. It is a product of the people who use it.

Same here! Huge performance increase, really top notch model. Thanks!

Books also work.

I rather trust articles reviewed and edited by a dozen authors than a book done by a single one.

Great Stuff Guys !!!
Are there any Swiss Repaints around? The Nose was also a bit different, since they've put a other Radio Antenna in it...

I finally took the opportunity to take this beautiful aircraft for a first flight today, over Cambridgeshire. One of my all-time favorites, when it comes to jets, and this sim-model handles ever so nicely!

(BTW, I love the oil-drips when the aircraft is sitting idle!)

Dead giveaways are the wingtip tanks on the Venom and the leading and trailing edges to the main wing: Vampire has angled-back leading and angled-forward trailing edges, Venom has more swept-back leading and near-straight trailing edges.

Beautiful model, good job! :applause::applause::applause:
