Chute failure rate

Does anyone know how change or lessen the rate of chute failure? Seems my chute fails every 2nd or 3rd time I bail out. I would like to have it every 25 or so bail outs.
 
Does speed and altitude affect the successful opening rate? I know I always try and slow down to below 100 knots and I generally get a useful parachute canopy over my head.

I'm sure glad that my real world experience with parachutes is way better than in CFS 2!
 
I believe you're right Jagd - speed, altitude and overall condition of your crippled bird. Sometimes too much critical damage to plane and/or pilot can prohibit a successful bailout.

Col. Wolf, minimize the chute failure rate by increasing your mission success rate. Watch your a$$ with more situational awareness and work harder to stay in the fight til the job's done. :salute:

CFS2's enemy AI engine is dumb and predictable and after a decade of this sim, i stopped counting the scarce number of times they get me long ago. I'm only counting kills these days.
 
Thanks for the reply guys. I had no idea that the sim took speed, alt... into consideration as to whether or not your chute opens.
 
I'm not sure but I've noticed that the attitude of the airplane sometimes makes a difference too.

Rolling upside down (up to about 250 mph) or zoom climbing to a stall before stepping out almost always seems to get a good chute. If you do have to get out at a high speed and you have enough altitude, wait a bit before popping the chute because opening the second you get out often means a chute failure.
 
CFS2 also considers the G force that is put on a pilot as well as all the other things mentioned.

I can't remember the last time I bailed out in CFS2, but in CFS3 the chute opens automatically. Have I missed a fun little feature, or is opening the chute something you clever fellows have added on?

Can't speak for anyone else just yet, but here's my "Survival Sequence"....

- Open Canopy [SHIFT-C]

- Hit [O] TWICE to bail out

- Well clear of the plane, hit [O] one more time, Chute opens.....

Thanks, I'll have to try that! I wonder if just hitting "O" once will have you standing on your seat! I'll definitely check it out in CFS3!
