Orbx Releases NZ South Island (payware)

Hesitant

On first glance I didn't see any problems. Real NZ photo sceneries also seem to integrate quite nicely (only some mesh steps here and there).

Well, I am a little hesitant to purchase just yet. I have read at least one blog where the user comments that the standard isn't as High as PNW (which, while good, I found to be lower than ORBX Australia by the way) - I really hope he is wrong - but as I already have VLC and also Robin Corn's sceneries for NZ, I can pause my finger over the BUY button for a little while yet.. But if anywone else would like to chip in with some more observations I would appreciate it. For all those who have not made any investment in NZ scenery this will probably be a great buy.

I might as well throw in a few pictures:

Did You noticed than NZSI has a problem if You have too Antarctica X ? http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/to...g-nzsi-question/page__pid__352040#entry352040 No trees/buildings of autogen if You have this two sceneries. If You deactivate Antarctica, NZSI has a custom buildings but no still autogen. For me problem extists on south part of Island. Examples:

im having a few other problems with it as well

last time i looked its there and as i type its staring me in the face so god knows what the problem is

any ideas?

but if you find a fix for the autogen let me now please

Ok, having not bought South Island yet, but I do have Antartica X, are there compatability issues?

Matt

just playing aorund with what bits i have installed, just set Antarctica to a lower order to your FTXNZ input and it appears to be fine , so far

I am holding until my new system arrives and I am up and running. But it does look mighty impressive.

Know just enough to be dangerous but shouldn't there be a backslash '\' between 'Microsoft Flight Simulator X' and 'ORBX'?

I got the same error message as Jeansy above when installing.

I found I had to go into the FTX Central app, tick the Oceania button,
apply, then leave the Oceania tab ticked while flying in NZD South, to
get all the NZD textures.

It's a bit of an inconvenience, since if I want go from NZD to PNW or vice
versa, I have to back all the way out of FSX to change the FTX Central, and
then go back and re-start FSX again (I find I don't have to do this if going
between Orbx Aussie and PNW - I guess it's the unique textures used in NZD
South Island).

But against this, Orbx's work on NZD South is just beautiful, and absolutely
worth having if you like VFR flying. I'll certainly advance purchase the North
Island as soon as it's offered.

Hope this helps - Rob

Currently there are texture issues as well that serve the North Island and many off the third party photo real addons from Real-New Zealand , Auckland/ Wellington / Paraparaumu and from FScreations.org ,s Hamilton / Taupo and many freeware in the works such as Wanganui heck the list go's on , affects cause a change in roof texture ie: Gables on the roof and the housing being turned into so to speak'little corner shop dairies' with a horrible blue and yellow housing texture with signage .

Large portion off these areas i have worked on ' years off AGNing ' and found a solution in replacing the roof texture call 'Gable Roof Texture Fix' from ORBX and the housing textures from Mike , FSCreatations.org file name 'Oceania_ANG_textures , course over at Mikes site .

Since i autogened most these areas found this problem away,s occurred after ORBX released the Australian scenery which in turn affected New Zealand . Other area that have premier New Zealand third party scenery is also affected , this will change with modifying textures so to suit all party,s . I have no answer for Antarctic X as dont have it yet .

I'm yet still to view other areas , Christchurch New Zealand photoreal is currently in the build , this a freeware that mesh,s nicely with the ORBX NZSI but will have this very problem , many other South Island scenery is currently being address to bring it all back in line with what us Kiwis are use to .

They are all third party design and its a case off mixing , adding and fixing but to make it simple for all to enjoy .

And just an addition about Antartica X: with the Oceania tab in the FTX Central
enabled (ticked), i tried three places in the southern part of the South Island
(Christchurch, Central Bush, and Duneddin) with Antartica X on and off in the
scenery library. I couldn't see any obvious difference one way or the other
(although with my old PC, it's possible subtle differences could be missed).

Antartica X was lower in the scenery library than the FTX entries, but this
happens automatically anyway when you enable the Oceania or North
America tabs in FTX Central.

It's possible there's some difference just by having Antartica X installed at all,
but I can't bothered uninstalling and reinstalling Antartica X just to find out.
But if for any reason I was going to reinstall Antrartica X, I would do it like a
GEX update in North America with PNW installed: put FTX Central to Default
FSX, install Antartica X, and then enable Oceania in FTX Central over top of it.

And as a final note, I popped down to a few bases in Antartica X, McMurdo
and a couple of oithers, and I didn't see any obvious problems there, like
trees and grass growing on the ice-ways.

Sorry for being so long winded, but again hope this helps. - Rob

Sascha Normann (the AntarticaX developer) has posted a fix to his scenery - http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php...enery-problem/page__view__findpost__p__344919 - the issue was that his excludes for A/X extended too far north into NZ and therefore wiped out the autogen. Apply his fix if you have AntarticaX installed, and problem solved.

I will be shortly posting a small 'how-to' guide for NZ scenery developers which basically shows how to exclude a specific area in our NZSI for any airport/scenery that you want to patch to work with NZSI.

EDIT: The NZ scenery compatibility guide is now up - http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/to...rs-how-to-exclude-nzsi-to-patch-your-scenery/

ORBX has given me so much flying pleasure over the last few years and a good friend gave me NZSI as a Christmas present. To show my appreciation to ORBX and to say thank you to my friend I have decided to paint some of Anthony Lynch's Tiger Moths in NZ colours and registrations.

Here is a teaser, a work in progress.

Still a lot of work and adjustments to be made but hope to have it up before Christmas Day.
