B-1B Lancer Update for FSX

fxsttcb

Panel & Gauge Hack!
I see a few of you fine folks have downloaded my B-1B Update. Can I get some critical feedback please. I want to put it in the Avsim and Flightsim libraries also. I can directly edit it here and don't want to have to add fixes there. I am afraid I can't see the forest for the trees. Thanks...Don

Is this I3D Lancer made for FS2002/2004? I tried looking for the aircraft and that's what I found. Can always do with another Bone. :)

Yep, the I3D there is a link in the readme for a 4 livery download. All that's necessary is the model and texture(s). Everything else is new...Don

I didn't know that airplane ever re-surfaced after the website closed. It had some serious FDE problems that I thought remained unfixed. I found it virtually unflyable while the site was still trying to stay afloat.

New sounds, new gauges, new *.air too. The model and texture(s) are available at flightsim and farmboyzimsflightsims...Don

Don, I applaud your initiative to get this airplane in the air in FSX. I know (because I was one) the I3d B1 had a large following in it's heyday as we anxiously awaited the promised updates. . . .those guys were obviously talented with good intentions but it seemed that their Military service took them away far too often to be able to hold true to their expectations. If I remember right they also had a beautiful F-15 that was "coming soon", but never did. The B-1B was a nice airplane then even with a partially done VC, but now, with no VC at all, it just isn't worth the time to combine various files just to get an incomplete airplane, IMHO.

Again, this is no slap at the work you put into trying to revive this old lady, just the state of things as they have evolved from the I3d's B-1B beginnings to now. There was a thread not too long ago in here about the true importance of a VC in a persons decision to download even freeware aircraft that didn't have one and it was evident that while for some it made no difference, to the majority, it was a major factor. . . .basically no vc. . . .no download.:salute:

...it was a major factor. . . .basically no vc. . . .no download.
'tis a major item for me too! If I could have found a different freeware B-1B with a VC that actually worked, this FSX port-over wouldn't exist. I have always liked the lines of the Lancer, so I grabbed what I could find and started fixing a panel to work in FSX so I could at least fly it.

On my first flight, when it lifted the main gear first, it kinda shocked me. Oh-oh, what did I mess up? Then I searched the forums to find out what I was actually up against. Lotsa FDE issues, old *.air file, way too many flap settings to accomplish the wing swing, LE slats, and flaps.
After many false starts I finally started getting the drift of what small tweaks and tunes were gonna help.
Meanwhile, I was having a blast testing and creating gauges for it.

I had never tried doing a sound set, but, I wanted to hear it spool up, spool down, 'burners, flaps, gear and all the little warnings.
Snot the best, but all four engines have their own sounds and react individually. Quite the learning experience.

I sent e-mails to any addy, I could find, for the original I3D group in hopes of obtaining the source code and permissions. No Joy.
Thus a couple months of tinkering sadly resulted in a 2D only port-over.
The beastie flies pretty good! The Swing Wings LD characteristics does keep the trim wheel busy, real busy.
Not being a BONE jock, how close I got it to RW is the question of the day...Don
