Spanish Civil War Progress

Not that I actually expect you to find them there but I would encourage anybody to have a look through the Simnetwork library to see if there is anything there we might need. I have a hunch the day is not far off when we may lose anything in their library that's not already found here at the Outhouse or SimV.

Just thinking out loud.

Oldwheat: Silvia's Br20 was payware and not released as freeware before her website went dark. I have a copy which was a gift to me. I can't post it obviously but if you want it just for yourself, you might PM me.

I was not aware that Silvia did a model of the Alcione though. The only one I know of is by Pierino Primavesi which is available at Simviation http://simviation.com/1/download-file?file=alcione.zip&fileId=31507

Ed: not a good proposal, sorry. A lot of what he has is already here which is where he got it in the first place. However, that which is his original work, payware or not, is his and we could not just take it. IF it is lost when/if his site goes dark it will be too bad but so be it. We can't sink to some other people's level, even if the intention is good. There is enough talent around here to create anything needed anyway.

Does anybuddy happen to have Silvia's Br 20 & Z1007s?

Oldwheat,

The only freeware version of the Fiat Br-20 that I know of is the version by IS4G. The Icarus version is very nice, but it ain't free. :mixedsmi:

I would never suggest just taking it, but if there are good and rare models (free or otherwise) stashed away on any site they should be downloaded to someone's private library for the sake of posterity. I brought it up because of the three short campaigns by Jack Folla that are found on the SCW site hosted by Simnetwork. I first got the campaigns back when they were free. Now they want money, which is fine, and they are entitled to ask for it. But, I may very well want to update them in the not to distant future. If I do, I would be perfectly willing to upload them to the SCW site hosted by Simnetwork if that is my only option. However, I got no answer when I sent a message to Jack's last known address. My only other option is to pay $5.00 to get the privilege of joining a website that, apparently, has not been updated in five years. That being the case, I will likely get no answer to any request I make after paying the $5.
:a1451:

Then there is the issue of upsetting the many artists who frequent the outhouse and have been ripped off by Simnetwork. I think there were probably other artists, years ago, who uploaded to and used Simnetwork with the belief that it was going to be legitimate and adhere to the copyright laws protecting all other artists. Was jack Folla just such an artist? I have never known him and perhaps before I make further attempts to contact him someone should enlighten me. I don't want to infringe upon anybody's rights or make any of my friends here at the Outhouse angry. Nevertheless, I do think our recent attempts at honoring the people who fought and died during the Spanish Civil War by updating and giving these campaigns a common pair of spots on the country.cfg file is worth the effort.

So what do you all think?

Spanish Radio Chatter Progress

While OW seeks to sort out an airfile for his new bird I wanted to let you know I have finished a beta version of the Spanish radio chatter. It has a problem I'm trying to fix however. The problem being it only sounds off on about every other call that the sim makes. This has always been somewhat of a problem with my packages and I think it may be because I try to fill the GVR file with as high a quality recording that will fit. I got to looking at FVB's English recordings and found he did not come close to using up all the space allotted for a recording. So, I am shrinking the size and quality of all the wave files I am putting into the GVR files in hopes of fixing this problem (it will not effect the realism of the calls). I might also be able to get in the directional calls that I have never been able to get to work.

Anyway, I won't be releasing the calls until they work a little better.

Did anybody else see this as a problem with my earlier packages? I am asking because I may consider reworking any that the community sees as problematic. Don't be shy, I can take the criticism.

I remember reducing the sound quality on some addon sound files for a some missions that I made to about minimum back when hard drive space was more limited. I never could tell much difference between the high end recordings and the lower (smaller size) quality recordings. Radios back in the day didn't have good sound quality anyway and had a lot of static, particularly in the lower frequency bands. The smaller size recordings should be just as realistic sound wise and hopefully more reliable.

Iam Interested.

Anything that increases this Sim diversity in Campaign is widely appreciated,

Maybe one of us will make a campaign dedicated to the Japanese Chinese Airwar from 1937 to 1941 one day.

The Biggest Problem with Radio Chatter is . . .

. . . the part where it gives you the bearings of something. For instance "Radar reports bandits in your sector bearing nine zero degrees". This is actually two separate GVR entries: "Radar reports bandits in your sector" and "bearing nine zero degrees". I have never been able to get these two separate calls to fit together without running together. It always comes out like this,"Radar reports blurble blurble garbage zero degrees". So, I have just omitted the "bearing . . . " part by inserting a blank wave file. That way, just about everything else works. So far, the Spanish calls only work about every other call. But I am hoping that by reducing the size of EVERY GVR entry these calls will work together, and none of the calls will be omitted. The sad part is if it does work I will feel compelled to redo the other language packs and that takes A LOT of work. We will see. I hope to test the reduced sized calls today. Maybe it will not help and I have been doing the best job the CFS2 fairies have allowed all along.

Hello erufle

Keep up the great work, can be a pain when after all the progress some bugs still exist.

Watch out for those faires, especially if they look like a couple of very large blokes wearing pink tutu's !!!!!!!!

Hope you had a great Christmas and also have a great new-year.

Avia 51 to Donate

Hello Enthusiasts :)

I would like to donate an Avia 51 to your cause.

The aircraft at this point has no 2D panel but is ready to accept a VC panel if you use that.

The interior is set for passengers so will need to be gutted.

I can trim her down a bit to lower the polys.

Here is an artist rendition of teh paint scheme, also a picture of teh crashed unit (last surviving copy), and a screenshot of what she looks like in civvie clothes.

Are you interested?

Tell me what needs to change in the model and I will do this for you.

Once done, I will pass the model to someone to convert.

What say you?

Yes please!!!!!!!!!!!! :jump::jump::jump::jump:

I need guidance in terms of:

Tell me what needs to change in the model and I will do this for you.
Does it need a VC for a panel, or is a 2D panel used?
What do you want the "cabin interior" to look like?

Once done, I will pass the model to someone to convert.
Who wants to do that?
I will provide the gmax source and/or a FS8 or FS9 exported model; your choice.

Milton,

First I want to thank you for considering your outstanding work for us basement dwellers. Very exciting!

CFS2 is an old sim so poly numbers are always a concern. I personally would like to see a VC though it isn't necessary. Also a multi-LOD model would certainly work more efficiently, particularly when several aircraft are used in a mission.

Now I am no expert on the Spanish Civil War but I would assume the interior would be pretty bare for transporting cargo or troops.

As for the model conversion, I would be willing to take a shot at converting it to CFS2 with the gmax model. I'm wrapping up a project right now and will be available to work on it shortly.

Hi,

I appreciate your interest and willingness to to do this.

I hope to finish up the 2D panels and VC this week.

If you are a gmax user, I would be happy to pass the full package over to you including the gmax source. And if you feel you can, modify it as you see fit.

The model does not include LOD models; can you do that?

Thanks

Milton,

I could add LOD models in gmax, though that would increase the time to complete it of course. Basically what I would do is use your model as the high LOD then clone it and start consolidating polys and removing the details until I had several models then compile. The bummer is as I remove things and combine vertice I would have to reapply some of the textures.

So when you are ready to pass the package over I can take a look and see if LOD's are possible. I have to admit I'm a little nervous about working with your models and doing them the justice they deserve, so please go easy on me. By the way, I got started modelling planes with gmax after your C162 tutorial. Thank you again!

I can do the SCW skin, let me know where/what if required.

The rest of the repaints I was doing have been on hold until today, on my list of new year resolutions was to complete the SCW skins/project I was doing, then finish some other skins on my list, followed by 3D modelling.

Was hoping to get done last year but health and consequently finances were not the best, hence some time out to do some healthy projects as well as some other projects that kept me thinking positive - although there were some days morale was about -2 on a scale of 0 (lowest) to 10 (best).

Fingers and toes crossed that this year will be a great one for all of us.

Issue with mapping for the tail of the Bulldog

The tail only has one surface, not an upper and a lower, will do the camo scheme as a wrap around for the tail aft of the red fuselage. Sorry for not being able to have a sky blue under surface but can't be helped with the mapping issue. If anyone knows how to change the mapping so there is an upper/lower please let me know. :isadizzy:
Still got some work to do on the wing ribs in the red surfaces but I am getting there.

Its great to see that things are still growing in this theater. I am going to test out the latest version of Spanish Radio Calls this weekend.:jump:

Nice job. Send it please.I like all those forgotten airplanes, that's changing us from the traditional Fighters/bombers.
