I couldn't resist buying this.....

Months ago, I posted about my new living quarters (man cave) in the lower floor of my sister's house, here on Sanibel.

Some time this year, probably around June, I plan to expand my apartment by adding another room (that is currently garage storage).

I found this door in an online auction, and couldn't resist. It is off of the
USS Halsey (DLG/CG-23).

When my new room is added, I will have this door installed as the entrance. Perfect! I even have a CPO Berthing plate to go on it...heh, heh.....

Lets hope that in 10 or 15 years you can still lift your feet high enough to get over the sill. :bump:

Why would I not be surprised to find out that one day the walkway to your door is going to be lined with polished 5" casings and a neighbor kid standing watch? Not a bad buy for your quarters there Chief.

Hmm, now there's an idea! I also have an engine room alarm. Never hooked it up, but takes 110/120.

But I would risk getting cited for violation island noise ordnance, so I doubt I'll use it any time soon!

Also...I have a ship signal light. You know, those huge lights with shutters? It originally used 260 volt, I think. Planning on rewiring it someday....

Looks like you are going to make your own Mess in your little apartment there Pete. Certaintly a nice find. I will say though that before I logged in (I couldn't see the photo) I thought you had bought one of the ships metal passageway doors. :icon_lol: Would be fun dogging down the hatch before going to bed at night.

I definately would say hooking up the engineering alarm would be a bad idea. I am certain your neighbors or sister wouldn't appreciate it, lol. I certaintly do not miss going to GQ, or any of that stuff on the boat. Some aspects of it were cool, but all the alarms and stuff I can do without.

As a Pit Snipe, I can attest to those engineroom alarms being intense. They have to be to get us half deaf snipe's attention.

Nice job there Chief... maybe your sister wouldn't mind making room for a division.... then I can get some quarters. :icon_lol:
