As this was largely made by Weta in Wellington, there is a strong NZ connection.
But that's not the reason you should see this; "animation" is hardly the right term for what they did.
I want a Flight Simulator that looks like the sea and Norseman in this movie.

ive just seen a fast view of a yellowish..or cream? (im colorblind) plane in this movie trailers on tv ads....i thought it was a beaver...its a Norseman?...what year would it be depitcting?..what little ive seen of it...its pretty darned nice looking...did see one bit where its crashing....wasnt pleased with that......

I also thought it was a Beaver, but ace aircraft walking encyclopaedia Naki says: Norseman.
It fits, as Tintin was set in the 1930's.
 
Hergé, the original creator of TINTIN, was an aviation enthusiast and, in Tintin's adventures, always took much more time to draw aircraft (cars, ships and some buildings too). In L'HISTOIRE DE L'AVIATION des origines à 1914 (History of aviation from the origins to 1914) and L'HISTOIRE DE L'AVIATION guerre 1939 - 1945 (History of War aviation 1939 - 1945), he drew very detailed representations of many of them. It's in French, but the pictures are self-explaining.

Actually, Jacques Martin was designing the airplanes in collaboration with Hergé in the links I gave. But the TINTIN albums do contain many aircraft representations, some quite accurate, some loosely inspired. You can find a very good enumeration of "aviation related" strips with a few comments HERE. Incidentally, in Le Crabe aux Pinces d'Or, from which the movie is partly inspired, Hergé depicted a Bellanca 31-42 Pacemaker. Again, it is in French, so Chrome will come handy; HERE

Mmm could easily be a Bellanca, yes.
You gotta love Chrome's Franglais: "The life jacket, called Mae West in memory of the chest advantageous American actress, was part of the flight equipment airmen brought to operate in sea areas"

Young, I was too poor to get TINTIN, so I would read them at the school library, or content myself with Martin le malin, a cheap alter-ego. HERE

I can't vouch for the movie aircraft, but this Bellanca has, I still wonder why, a ... tail wheel! Go figure... :kilroy:

Mark my words, in 5 yrs, actors/actresses will be a thing of the past.."Rango" showed us the new tech behind CGI facial movement, TinTin it´s showing the kind of fluidity that it´s marking the path to future movie making.Combine both, and you can watch Harrison Ford (CGI-ed) in a new Indiana Jones adventure rigth after "Raiders"..
