Dutch Aviodrome Closes Its Doors – December 24, 2011

several groups have joined force, (some foundations, funds, some 'welthy Dutch people')

AFAIK i haven't been contacted sofar... :costum:

Will be interesting to see if the 'Royal Family' will help to put a stop to this possible dutch aviation travesty.... Talk about whealthy people, éh ?... ( i believe Beatrix is one of the richest women in the world... ) Many KLM aircraft, Schiphol hangars, buildings are honoured with their names, even a complete airport. Bernhard was an avid aviator as well as his, soon to be King of The Netherlands, grandson is now ( no doubt WE payed for his training.. ) If there ever was a chance for them to give something in return, NOW is the time !

Maybe a hint would help : change Aviodrome into Trixodrome, or Alexodrome, or even Maxidrome...

Btw, wasn't a good idea to change Aviodome into Aviodrome in the first place, was it.... ( 'drome' means 'dream' in dutch.... and dreams have a nasty habit of usually not becoming a reality ) let alone transplant the museum from the Schiphol premises ( where it damm well belonged !! ) to something as relatively 'remote' as Lelystad airport.... If you ask me that was an unbelievably stupid action and no doubt the forerunner of the deplorable situation that the museum is in now.

Can we say " Shame on you, KLM/Schiphol bobo's !! " ??.... Yes, we can !! :violent:

( Ok, difficult times.... Air France possibly had something big to say in this matter. They have Dassault, Airbus.... who cares about them little Fokkers, n'est pas... )

Anyway, good to know it will not go under 'zonder slag of stoot' , Rob ! Thanks for the info !

" Je maintiendrai "
dan maar weer, hè... :wiggle:

Why not ?.... I can see a huge poster of her face in bridal fashion right above the entrance door. If you shove a ten euro note in the slot next to the door a tear will weld up in her eye and fall down gracefully along her royal cheek while a short tango will be played by Carel Kraayenhof.

That'll produce a fair amount of revenues, i'm sure.

Hey, it's 2012, nothing crazy enough to make a buck !

A crying shame, I hope a solution can be found.

One thing confuses me; why/how is a Dutch museum applying for Chapter 11 protection, isn't that American legislation?

Well, if we told that the museum asked for Uitstel van betaling and then went failliet I doubt anyone would know what we are talking about.. 'Chapter 11' is probably the best way to descibe what happened in a way most here can understand. ;)

Thanks for clearing that up. I blame the Night Nurse for my brain not working today.

I will happily do the oldfashionate thing and just once dedicate a tenth of my monthly income to this cause. It is such a cool place and it just sucks if it would never open again. I love the place and it's even better when you combine it with a flight in one of the old planes like the S.11:applause: I am already a member of the DDA and I will happily become a member of any new foundation as well just to support this museum.

The Aviodrome is saved!!

The Aviodrome is saved!!

The complete collection will stay in tact. The DC2 and Constellation were taken over by KLM, Schiphol and the local town, Lelystad. They will remain in the collection as well. This was a precaution, so in case of an auction these priceless planes would be saved for the Netherlands.

There will be some changes, planes will be made more accessable, and there will be a spotters terrace at the winglevel of the boing 747, so visitors have a great view of the park and the plane tracffic on Lelystad Airport.

It will reopen April 28.

Cheers, Rob

Great News!! We will definitely visit during our next trip to Holland which will probably be in 2014. :medals: :icon29: :guinness:

Best, Paul
