Filelist File, refusal to create.

stoney

SOH-CM-2023
I wonder if anyone else has had this happen and might have a solution!? I have three CFS2 installs and only one (Euro) has this issue. The game will not create a filelist for/in SCENEDB/ships/scenery. No matter how many restarts I do, no filelist is created.:banghead:

I believe this is the reason wrecked ships is shown as "not found in the library", even though the bgls are clearly in their proper place. Thanks.

Stoney, delete the all of the index files and force the sim to recreate.

AIRWAY_INDEX
ICAO_INDEX
INDEX_FILE
LAT_INDEX
STR_INDEX
WAYPOINT_INDEX

Didn't work Bearcat. I removed these Index files and the sim CDT on Free Flight selection. I put 'em back in and things were back to normal, but still no Filelist in the SCENEDB/ships. I am really perplexed.

Which INDEX file is associated with the ships? I don't have a clue.

I hope I am not intruding too much....but perhaps corrupt bgl / bad or missing entry in the scenery.cfg?

I re-D/L'd the wrecked ships hoping that might be it, but no joy I'm afraid. Scenery cfg seems to be okay as well Ogilvie.

Stoney,

I'm not sure this is maybe a cause either, but maybe worth a try if not already done. Remove a bgl at a time and start CFS2 and check for a filelist.dat?

Other than that I'm stumped also. I'm not familiar with the indexes so we will have to leave that expertise to Bearcat when he's able to get back to the forum.

Cheers,
O

Well..I have solved the issue, in one way at least. I used the wrecked ships scenery/bgl's and the texture folders, then created a folder 'ships_wrecked'. I then added them to the SCENEDB as one would any other scenery and viola:jump:, the wrecked ships now appear in the river of Jean Bombers superb scenery of Port Lyautey, Morocco. I believe I will quite while I'm ahead.

:applause:
Bravo....It is a work around for the ships folder issue....but if all else fails why not!

Cheers,

...Which INDEX file is associated with the ships? I don't have a clue.

I'm not exactly sure which is. They're all written in code. But the one named as INDEX_FILE is the only one with any legible text amongst its many lines of illegible code. And from what i can decipher, it seems to list installed scenery only. Since its hard to determine their symbiotic relationships by their code, i generally just delete them all when i encounter something odd, like your problem. The last one i didn't mention is the ppath.log. It seems to carry some weight as well in managing the library. If all the others are deleted and this one is left, the user will generally keep getting the same results as per my experiences.

The other thing you could have done is check inside the sim at the scenery library list to make sure that the default SHIPS scenery folder is "active" (X marked). If not, activate it there, click the OK button, shut down the sim and restart it. If it is active, uncheck it to deactivate, click OK, exit the library, then go back into it and re-activate the SHIPS again.

But i'm glad to hear that you got a handle on this challenge in whatever way that works. :salute:
