V8 in a Cessna 172...

As mentioned in the comments there, I'm sure they mean the Thunder Mustang or the other scale Mustang kit that was out there.
I found these tidbits about what they're developing really interesting.

1. AMAZING V8 SKYMASTER 337 - We have done the numbers on a Cessna 337 Skymaster with the IO360 or the GM LS7 505hp up front and the LS9 650hp supercharged engine in the rear. With both GM engines, it tops out at only 275 mph because it is a draggy airplane, but WOW, slow it down and it performs. Better than 5000 fpm in a climb and 200 mph on the rear engine alone. As in our 172 STC, it will operate on premium auto fuel, run silent, and be highly serviceable.

4. 400 MPH CLONE COMMANDER – There is the exciting potential of producing an 80% scale Twin Commander using the GM LS engines that can fly and possibly even cruise at 400 mph. Given a clean, composite design, this plane could be configured for 6 people, pressurized comfort with at least a 1000 mile range operating on your auto fuel. It naturally will be a fast build kit ranging in cost from $300,000 to $500,000 finished depending upon which options were to be included. This airplane with better than VLJ performance could be accepted in sufficient quantity to justify its’ certification for use in business.
