SOH-CM-2025
I think most Long-timers remember Emma Field and the anticipation of a "WIP" EmmaX. Well, that original project has "evolved" shall we say and new folks are working on it behind the scenes. No time table, no promises. . . .so in the meantime, I have revived a "placeholder" for Emma. New ground texturing, new layout, seasonal autogen and a night map. It's being beta tested right now and at least on my system it works equally well in Orbx PNW and with GEX/UTX. There are elevation problems that I did my best to minimize, but at least in PNW the terrain in that area is so undulating that finding a happy medium with flattens has been a real hair puller, lol. I think for most folks (the non-nitpickers) it will simply be a nice spot near Cushman Meadows and Bear Gulch to fly into and enjoy the scenery. I still have some work to do, kinda fine tuning things, but hopefully this weekend I'll be able to release it for those who are interested.

This is fantastic news for me at least. I've SOOOOOOOOOOO missed Emma!

Thank you!!

The scenery was kind of a jaw dropper back in FS8 days with all the animated stuff going on there.

Yep, that it was. Lago had a long stretch of successes with all of the GeoRender scenery that they produced, kinda the forerunner to what PNW covers now. Needless to say, mine won't have any fancy animation but at least it's in generally the same location as the original Emma Field was.

This is really great news! I spent many a hour in the "Emma" world back in the day. Whatever ya come up with will be greatly appreciated.:applause:

Right, GeoRender.

Oh, the days...when a model with a VC was something special...

Ed that would be vary cool to have, I have used your other older one befor PNW, and was one of my favorite stop overs when doing my mail runs!!!
Thanks!!!
Marvin

Just a side note about the screenshots. I don't know where "Snapper" pulls the info about the airports, but I can tell you that Emma has a normal AFCAD (KEWL) that shows up correctly in GPS so why it doesn't see it for the screenshots. . . . .no idea, lol.

Great work so far :salute:

Oh I miss Emma, my favorite from FS9. I had a similar idea of doing a fictional field in its place, but the lack of talent quickly ended that dream. It only got so far as to a few raw buildings in Sketchup.

A similar story here Montie. I had plans to do some custom objects for this rendition and after pulling most of my hair out trying to comprehend GMax/Sketchup I gave in to using mostly default objects. . . .it's the thought that counts, lol. By the by. . .here's a night shot after producing a night-map.

That looks nice. I look at the image that you used for the background, and I can actually see the non-tiled look of the ground. I think it looks great, Ed.

Something that's really taking away from the look of the land, is the way scenery is not an actual image of the terrain in a lot of places. Of which, Orbx scenery is no exception. Theirs is tiled also. Which is one of my peeves about their PNW-Blue Region (and I'm sure the rest are the same) They just toss out their farmland and acreage patches like it's candy to kids.

Which is why I was never interested in flightsims until VC's got decent, and TrackIR became available. I tried out a number of MS flightsims over the years, and a few others which I can't even recall the names of.

I bought a new flight sim. The program was installed, fired up, used for a few minutes, then uninstalled. Rinse, repeat, rinse repeat...until nice VC's and TrackIR.

I'm glad it evolved, although it took long enough. I never did try the Emma Field that people talk about every so often. I'll have to try Ed's version.

The nice thing about smaller airports or actually just centralized areas such as a small town even, you can usually get a decent resolution image in one file from the USGS that eliminates the tiling.

Snapper has it's own database of stock airfields and that's where it pulls the location info from....
