Carenado V35B Damage Mod version 1.0

Even though I don't have the Carenado V-35, I downloaded this package from Flightsim.com to see how it works.
As expected, it's a bunch of gauges that analyze in real time the behavior of your airplane and determines failures, wear and damage accordingly.
I transfered the gauges to the default C172 for a short test, and I could see it successfully detected flaps overspeed (and my flaps stopped working) and hard landing (and the plane position of ground changed).
I should do more testing to see if the engine parameters are set correctly, but basically it seems that this module is a concrete attempt to reproduce a kind of Accusim or at least a system comparable to the Katana.

Wear and damages seem to be "saved" across flights, too, just like Accusim. That's nice.
Adaptation to other models is limited though, because some parameters are stored into a config file that requires some original gauges from the Carenado V-35, so I probably won't be able to get all the features to work on the C172...

Just tried this in the V35B and it works very well, it knows when you have been naughty and helps you repair any damage you may have done to your aircraft.

It also reminds you to check your oil level and top up if needed, apply the parking brake etc.

If I find any probs i will let you know, in the meantime I am going to try this with the Carenado A36.

I am still testing the adaptation on the default C172.
The various thresholds are hard-coded into the XML gauges exactely like the first version of the RealEngine gauges.
I could verify that the wear and damage factors are really saved automatically into a small file, which means the plane damage stays from a flight to another, like with Accusim. :jump:

This is one of the best freeware offerings I have seen in awhile. Works as advertised and is similiar to Real Engine but covers more options and also saves your damage if you log off without fixing anything. It has a small window that comes with Shift 6 that tells you what state the plane is in and shows items to be fixed if needed plus checks your oil.

I hope he brings out a version that will have adjustable selections so we could apply it to almost any plane including airliners.

Here is the window that comes up, and as you can see, I have been very bad.

I'm kinda anxious to try this myself as the V35B is one of my favs. Just one thing I'm puzzled about.... In the readme file it says just to copy the folders into the FSX main folders and OK overwrites. However, there's a file in each of the two aircraft folders called "aircraft.cfg_CopyPaste.txt" . Since this isn't mentioned what did you do with it? I know, Copy and Paste it :icon_lol:. BUT, is it pasted in the aircraft.cfg in addition to what's there or replacing what's there, or did you even do anything with it????

Thanks,
Steve

PS....I know....BACK UP THE ORIGINAL FOLDER FIRST!!!!!:wiggle:

The only thing you have to do is copy the folders in the zip and paste them into the main FSX folder, they will replace all thats needed and be sure to overwrite when asked.

Indeed.
I don't know what these ...copy.txt files are for, but I didn't use them at all.
So far I have to keep the sound gauge disabled because it caused a crash when I first tried to adapt the gauges to the C172.
I guess I'll try to activate it again soon.

These are the updated FDEs by Bernt Stolle as mentioned in the Readme. They are specific to the V35B only. The new airfile is part of them. If you wish to use these FDEs, backup your original cfg, then copy the entire cfg text from the "aircraft.cfg_CopyPaste.txt" to the aircraft.cfg in the corresponding folder, pasting from the [General] to the bottom. KEEP your original [fltsim.*] sections! Then, be sure to rename the "sim=Carenado_V35" (airfile) to "sim=V35_ng" in each fltsim section. This activates the new airfile, which is a different name from the original.

Ahhhh...that makes sense then and TYVM. BTW, which FDE do you prefer and why?

Steve

PS: I see you're an RC'er like myself :salute: and we're about the same age, I'm 62. Started flyin' RC back in '72 and still loving it. :jump:

Interesting, I fly RC also, been doing it for almost 40 years. Anyone ever head of Striking Back?

Oh Yeah! (But you already know that from another thread):icon_lol:

BTW there is now a small update for this Damage Mod.

The mod for the C172 has been uploaded already, I downloaded it from Simviation and successfully tested it :applause:
And the author is know working on the default Baron ! :jump:

For information, the mod for the default Baron has been uploaded to the main websites as well today.
And somebody on a french forum said that it could adpat the mod to the Carenado Baron quite easilly. :applause:

EDIT: perhaps the title of the topic should be changed, because this mod is not only for the V-35 anymore, it's on its way to become global.
