This is as good as anything from Monty Python....

A video I came across the other day while sitting in my office chair for 6 hours watching videos and trying to forget about how bad I feel with this sinus/head cold. Totally funny.....but it happens everyday I guess.

As good as anything from Python? Ironically the same ceremony was also covered by none other than Michael Palin in his documentary series Himalaya with Michael Palin.

"Chauvinism at it's most camp."

"The Pakistan Rangers put on a masterly demonstration of how angry you can get without hitting anyone."

"National passions are further inflamed by a display of precision nastiness in which thumbs are used to terrifying effect."

Sanjeev Bhaskar's commentary is beautifully understated! You really get the feeling that it all developed trying to wind up the other side, and just got sillier as time went on.

BTW John Cleese has admitted that he & Graham were influenced by the Evzones when they wrote the Silly Walks sketch. Who are the Evzones I hear you ask (although Matt & Nigel aren't in that chorus) ....

yeah today the Εύζωνοι/Εύζωνες (pron. eff-z (lowercase z pronunciation, like in zip)-ohn-oi, eff-z-ohn-ess) are known as the Proedriki Froura, known colloquiallyas theΤσολιάδες (pron. ts-ol-ee-ah-th-ess), charged with guarding and protecting the tomb of the unknown soldier and the presidential mansion...

originally it was the term for a rifle team within a company, sort of the marksmen of the lot...

gave me a laugh all the same

IIRC the stompjng match happens twice a day at opening and closing of the border crossing. They must get through a lot of boots.

Seeing how both countries, India and Pakistan,....built such substantial looking viewing stands it's doubtful these ceremonies will go away anytime soon.

Great mustaches! You can sure see the British influence in their military ceremonies, even 60+ years after indepenence. :)

That is hilarious, but man... Did you know you can get micro fractures from smacking your ankles on the pavement like that? Do you know how bad microfractures hurt??? Ouch!

Hilarious though. :D Britania has left their mark upon them.
