SOH-CM-2025
Hi All
I have just completed two missions relating to the attacks on the IJN Southern Force in the Battles of Leyte Gulf. If anyone would like to test them and give me some feedback, it would be appreciated, as these are my first designs.:jump:

Hi Stuart,

Thanks a lot for the missions - they're beauties. I like the attention to historical detail and realism. The missions worked well.

My only suggestion is to not have the 30 second wait at waypoint 3 before the message "Enemy TF Sighted, 2BB, 1CA 4DD. Await Arrival of Search Group 1 for Co-Ordinated Attack" comes up. When you arrive at this waypoint you can see the Japanese fleet and they're shooting at you. You tend to instinctively want to commence attack immediately, unaware of the instructions which are about to come.

I had trouble with the Mogami but this is nothing to do with your work. At first the mission would not load, but then I remembered I had had the same problem before with this ship. I downloaded the latest version of the Mogami from Usio's site and the problem was solved. I intend to go through the rest of my Usio ship collection and make sure I have the latest versions.

Good work :medals:

Kevin

Thanks for the Feedback

Thanks for the feedback and the encouragement kevin and shadowolf.
I forgot about the JMK ships needing a tweak and I have changed the 'readme'.
I changed the waiting time to 15 secs, that gets the "Await Arrival of Search Group 1 for Co-Ordinated Attack" message enough time to break off any attack attempts. I also changed the message to "Rendezvous with Search Group 1 for Co-Ordinated Attack"
I will upload when I can.
Cheers

Hi Stuart...

I have downloaded the missions but haven't flown them yet. Looks great but I have a few questions and comments though:

The dps used, are thy Pen32win's alternate dps or other? Second: have you tried Wolfi's SB2C? I think it is better than the AvHistory bird - especially with payload loadouts and handling. Note: AvHistory 1% planes are designed to be flown on hard flight model with weapons set to strongest and for that reason should never be mixed with other aircraft. For example I published a few years ago a Sibuyan Sea mini-campaign (same battle in the Leyte campaign) using all 1% birds. and in the Sibuyan Sea engagement of my USS Essex CV9 campaign I used all stock Avengers, Wolfi's Helldiver and the same FDG bird that you use. If you fly (even as AI) the 1% SB2C on weapons normal, their effectiveness will be much less than realistic.

I learned long ago that for stock and most downloaded aircraft, the most realistic flight model is medium. The hard flight model setting was put in by the MS designers only "...for tournament play and extra challenge." If you fly the 1% SB2C and the FDG F6F-5 both on hard or both on medium you will notice a great difference in handling and weapons effectiveness. Also, you forgot to include the "1% gauges" in your list of downloads. If you want to get rid of that "fish-eye view" when you look left or right in the 1% planes, open the panel config file and change the views to:

[VIEWS]
view_forward_WINDOWS=%window_title_00%
VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=1.3, 0.0, 0.0
VIEW_FORWARD_ZOOM=0.85
VIEW_RIGHT_ZOOM=0.85
VIEW_LEFT_ZOOM=0.85
VIEW_REAR_ZOOM=0.45
VIEW_FORWARD_UP_ZOOM=0.85

...and delete the cdp

Thanks again for your work!

Who is Willy?

I have just received an email requesting that my email requires verification from willy@sim-outhouse.com. I trashed it, if it is real, please forgive my ignorance of such things, but if it is not well??

Hi Shadowolf
The dps used are Pen32win's alternate. I used the same aircraft as your Sibuyan Sea mini-campaign for the sake of continuity. I have tried Wolfi's SB2C, but I had trouble with crashing on takeoff. I usually fly on easy. The gauges for the SB2C were in the complete aircraft file but I could change the readme and re-upload.
Thanks for the heads up on the view and your feedback (and your missions)
Cheers

Hi Stuart:
Do you know how to set yourself (carrier takeoff start) further back on the flight deck at start or add wind to missions for an easier takeoff?

1. Example: on the ship.cfg:

[flight_deck_section]
width=32
length=241
takeoff_start=-6,21,-80 make this number larger (-100)
takeoff_stop=0,21,120
landing_start=0,500,-5000
landing_touch_down=0.1920005,15.5,-81.536003
landing_stop=0.1920005,15.5,0

...then delete any .cdp for the ship.

2. Wind:

Remember: If the ship is sailing on a course of 90 degrees, for example, then you want the wind from 90 degrees to have a headwind. I usually set the wind alt from zero to 500-1000 feet. Of course, you want the ship sailing on the same heading at landing.

3. Carrier launch tips:

Start engine and set you parking brakes. Pull full back on the stick to prevent nosing over. Increase power to full. Engage WEP and release the brakes immediately, easing up on the stick back pressure. As you start to roll, hit G so the gear will come up as soon as you clear the fight deck - this will help to reduce drag. Also, as soon as you start to roll, push forward on the stick slightly until your tail raises - this will help you to reduce your drag on takeoff too. After clearing the flight deck you may have to dive slightly to pick up airspeed.

Note: In my post above I have changed the VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=1.3, 0.0, 0.0 to 1.3. This puts my bullet stream through the center of my gunsight. Such a modification is needed for all the AvHistory planes I have flown.

Couple of things

Just got done flying the 1st mission. Everything was fine until I crashed trying to land on VN_BigE. I'll have to practice a bit. Great mission though. It's getting late so I'll try again tomorrow.

Here are a couple of things that had me stumped for a while.

1)vn_neworleans was giving me fits until I realized it was all one word. None of the other VN ships are like this one. All have a space. Once I deleted the space in the name in the mission file, no more error.

[unit_type.13]
type_id=6278
unit_family=5
name=vn_new orleans Changed to vn_neworleans

2)JMK_Mogami....I fixed the Family and Category in the DP, just as you advised, but I was still getting an error.....until I looked at the mission file and saw the family set at 7 there. Changed it and error gone.

[unit_type.4]
type_id=6060
unit_family=7 Changed to 5
name=JMK_Mogami

Great stuff Stuart. Thanks for uploading them.

Correct link for the independence class carriers

The readme has the following link for the Independence Class carrier:
"Easykill’sIndependence Class Carrier

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=451 "

That link is in fact the same link for the Big Mamie BB.

Thanks Shadow wolf
The correct link for the independence class carriers is:
http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=3811
I also tried the wind effects. It worked well. Flew straight through the funnel and bridge structure of the Enterprise on my first go before I saw that the wind was at 90 degrees to take off.

Cheers

Hi Worthalot
Thanks for your comment. I left the Mogami as a 'carrier' as it had a small flight deck for seaplane movement.
All of Usio's wonderful ships are unit_family=7
I think I got my New Orleans from another mission and I guess that is why it was only one word.
Good luck with the landings, I can only land the Swordfish.
Cheers

If you leave it as a carrier, your callsigns.dat file will only generate carrier names for it, unless you hand edit the mission files.

Stuart,

I have been very busy at my job for the past couple of weeks, so I didn't have any time for CFS2. But I will download and try your missions as soon as I find some free time,
It is good to see new people join the ranks of mission builders!

Cheers,

I've been flying them for a couple of nights now and found them very well done and realistic. Thanks Stuart:salute:.
