PT Tu-154 Release Version 1

SeanTK

Charter Member
The Tu-154 is out of "beta" mode, and has reached official public release version 1.0.
Previous users may recall that beta 1 was released in November 2011, followed by beta 2 and beta 3. These betas were still more refined than many other freeware developers' final releases, and progress continued until PT was happy enough to settle on a widely publicized version.
Yet more changes have been made since the beta days, and now we have an official public release version 1.0!

Note: I cant' find my Tu-154 nor my Russian airliners threads here any longer, so I'm making this new post.

Kirill recommends deleting the old beta versions prior to using this installer.

Additionally, and as always, I provide learning assistance for the Tupolev Tu-154 at my training center here:

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Sean for this HU. Still enjoyed the FS9 version (and with that the 154M !).
Time to move the Tu to FSX. :jump:

Cheers,
Hank

Sean compiled a huge list of repaints available for this Tu-154B-2 (among tons of other resources). Thanks Sean!

Kirill included a wide panel option in this new release.

There's some bugs with these wide panels.

In the 1990 panels:

With notepad open the 2 panel.cfg files in the folders Panel.90_Wide and Panel.90_Wide_Blue, search and replace all occurences of the string "STT_I21X_V1_02" by "STT_I21X_N1_1_08!I21_UVI".

If you don't have the payware RXP Garmin GNS430, in the same 2 panel.cfg files, replace all occurences of "rxpGNS!GNS430" by "FS9Garmin!GNS430". This FS9Garmin gauge can be found in the Twin Otter by Premier Aircraft Design (PAD) here:
http://www.premaircraft.com/dhc6-400_FS9/

In the 1970 panels: coming soon...

Can anyone confirm that this is a native FsX aircraft? If so it needs a sticky.

Yes 100% native FSX! With excellent framerates! Clickable VC! The lot!

To add some smoke, add this in aircraft.cfg below the [LIGHTS] section.

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=-36.00, -9.50, 6.00, fx_smoke_f6
smoke.1=-39.00, 0.00, 8.00, fx_smoke_f6
smoke.2=-36.00, 9.50, 6.00, fx_smoke_f6

Works best with this autosmoke.xml gauge. View attachment 62769 Add this file to the "gauges.shared" folder and add a line to the [vcockpit01] section of all panel.cfg files:
gauge42=..\gauges.Shared\!autosmoke, 1,1,1,1

Awesome heads up Sean,

Assuming the older repaints (CCCP Aeroflot ones you and I discussed) all work fine on the new model?

thanks!

This can kind of be considered just another step in the update process from November for those that have been using the FSX Tu-154B-2 since then. (I still can't find that original thread that I made)
Everything I said about the beta series 1 through 3 still applies, including the fact that FS2004-era repaints work with this aircraft, providing the user with at least 100 designs.
The aircraft has been and still is FSX-Native all the way.

I encourage anyone interested in this addon to sign up both on the Project Tupolev Forums, and at my training center:

It's an extremely complex piece of freeware, perhaps the most complex freeware aircraft in existence, and there is a learning curve involved.

Regarding my fellow Russian aviation enthusiast Vonstroheim's note, the engines of the Tu-154B-2 don't smoke in real life. That's only found in the later M model. (Kind of strange that the newer aircraft has the smokey engines and the old is clean, but that's the way it is).
So....if you simply like smoke and don't mind sacrificing some visual realism, go for it, otherwise remember that the real engines were smoke free on the B-2 version.

Some very very brief highlights of this aircraft:
Extensive 2D and Virtual Cockpit panel suite in two versions, and two colors (1970s and 1990s, and blue and green).
Custom sounds, including engines, APU, electrical system, and numerous crew callouts throughout aircraft operation, from pre-start to shutdown.
Extremely realistic systems representing almost all systems in the real aircraft except for the pressurization controls. Nearly everything else is here. As the system depth is comparable to the 154M, if you can operate this aircraft well in FSX, then you probably are not that far off from being able to master the real thing.
The virtual cockpit is made up entirely of 3D modeled gauges.
Extensive 160 page English-language flight manual is included to help you get familiar with the aircraft and get it off the ground.
Control movements do not use default FSX sensitivity/control logic, instead going through a custom interface within the addon for ultimate realism (works great if you have the Saitek Pro Flight system).

I'm glad to see that some interest remains in this aircraft, and I hope that those lurking through this thread will decide to tackle this brilliant "payware quality" addon.
Also remember, Project Tupolev is currently producing an Ilyushin Il-62M of the same caliber to be released hopefully later this year, freeware.

This I know is heresy but I merged the visual model with the CS 727 VC and it works perfectly. Always liked the Thunderbirds-like look of the Tu-154.

im trying to work this out, but failing

can you send PM me the details on the CS merge please

Easy route:

  • Make a complete copy of your CS 727 aircraft folder + rename it to something like, "727_Tu154_ Frankenstein Monster".
  • Copy the Tu154 FSX model and favorite Tu repaint into this new folder.
  • Copy the CS727 interior model into the Tu154 model file and add new corresponding entry line to model.cfg
  • Make sure you copy the CS 727 vc textures (in the main "texture" folder for the 727) into your Tu154 repaint(s).
  • Change your air.cfg entries to correspond to the new tu154 model and textures.

Essentially, it uses the air.cfg, and FDE - just about everything - of the 727 so it will fly like one, rather than a Tupolev. I like the user friendly but sophisticated CS VC together with the Tu exterior model. Don't try this then if that isn't your cup of tea.

:icon_lol: Whatever it takes to enjoy it!

Hopefully you'll find the time and interest to tackle the full addon one day!

This I know is heresy...

A slightly less horrible heresy is the following tweak: If you really don't want to bother with the long but fun startup procedure, just rename the gauge "es_154b2x_1_0.dll" to something like "es_154b2x_1_0.bak" and you can fly the Tu-154B-2 with its original VC (with just some holes in the panel, maybe but you don't get burned at the stake for such an small offence).

But don't get used to it! After a few easy flights like this, please try the real thing, you won't be disapointed! Remember, this is not the MS Flight forum... :icon_lol:

Inertial Navigation System I-21

If your Inertial Navigation System I-21 (INS) gauge is not showing up in the 90's panel, search and replace all occurences of the string "STT_I21X_V1_02" by "STT_I21X_N1_1_08" (sorry, I've made an error in my previous post about this).

For those venturing forth with this addon, how do you like it, and what issues are you having?

I just posted on the official PT forums about a problem I'm having getting the I-21 INS system to display on the '90s green panel (seems to work fine on blue), and other than that, I've only had time so far to load it up in sim briefly. Will have time to fly this latest version this weekend.

Also will post my preemptive light fixes (VC and lower-aft beacon) that I think are still needed for this latest edition after this weekend. I know at least the VC light fix is in my training center.

Excuse any strange text issues in this post. Written on my iPhone.

A reinstall seems to have fixed it. I forgot to delete the old beta-era I-21 config file in my guages folder, and the fact that they were in there when installing this new version may have messed things up. Or...maybe something else interfered. In any case, I'm back up and running with my 154, and I'll have time to actually run this latest version through its paces this weekend.

Again, this is an extremely high quality aircraft that is very rewarding to figure out, so I encourage those looking through this thread to give it a try!

It would be helpful if you'd read the posts on the 1st page.....

Ah, thanks for the attitude...
That problem didn't apply to me. Already had the GPS sorted (and knew I had to do that manually) and was not using the wide panels anyway (I don't use 2D when possible). It was just a corrupted install on my end thanks to some interfering programs and guages (forgot to completely delete all the files from the previous betas, so yes, I did read every post in this thread, and a simple complete deletion and reinstall fixed it, the aircraft and panel.cfgs were already good to go on my end regarding the INS. (Had an error on just the green panels, blue worked fine).
I've been using the Tu-154 series for at least six or seven years, and I know what errors are due to me vs an install routine, and what quirks are present within these latest FSX iterations.

Also a note for those interested:
This release 1 version comes with 2 Soviet-era Aeroflot liveries, including one carrying 1980 Olympics titles.
