AVSIM, is it broken?

Hi,

I can't get into AVSIM other than the first page. If I click on anything but the files tag I get a page error message. With the files section it works OK and shows me logged in but try as I might I get nowhere when trying anything else.

It's been like that since there changed their format other than the first few times I tried it.

Cheers Ron

I have no problem getting to AVSIM. You may want to clear your browser cache, that may be causing the problem.

Its not just you.

The last week I was getting a strange loading message but could search Avsim Carenado for example and get in though the forums. Its the main page for me that was causing the issue.
That said, I have not had a problem today.

Actually I've had doubts about AVSIM for a while.
Are the uploaders staying away?
I seem to find files at Flightsim that aren't up at AVSIM.
I've also wondered how AVSIM sees its future with MS Flight.
As a library resource, surely nil?

AVSIM has a really bad history concerning uploaded (and by AVSIM deleted) files from developers plus the fact that it's required to add a contact e-mail address in the readme.
Including an e-mail was a nice idea back in the old compuserve days but definitely not nowadays with things happening like stolen/fake facebook accounts etc...
So for me it's only simviation.com and flightsim.com
SOH is unfortunately a no-go for me because it's blocked in many countries.

Accountability is what Avsim is all about and traditions like freeware, and like freeware producers We work for free, the founders are the current administration, we are big on consistency as well with our senior staff, most count more than a decade of service, but one thing we have in common is being mere mortals in the field of IT .

We learn by doing , sometimes in the face of adversity such as the Infamous Hack , the library files were by and large recovered and entered into the data base again one by one , those that were corrupted did not make it back , to say they were deleted by Avsim is rather unfair .

Avsims team are adapting the website and its forums to meet the needs of the next generation of devices and simulation as a whole , and doing it as we have always done, by ourselves like the best of freeware with a diverse team in concerted effort to deliver in this instance Avsim V2.0.
It has been a couple of weeks now that the system rebuild has been underway, adapting 15 years worth of code and content isnt going to happen overnight, bugs and mistakes are inevitable, Avsim evolved , and is evolving. </SPAN></SPAN>

Well said Chuck. . .and just to add, I haven't really had any trouble with AVsim before or after the latest re-build. It caught me by surprise of course, I thought I'd wandered on to the wrong website at first but I like the new format. Just a word about the need to put an e-mail in the readme for uploads to AVsim. If you're uploading something that you did personally (repaint, scenery, aircraft, etc) then I should think the need for an e-mail address is obvious. I would want to hear from folks (positive or negative), especially if they're having a problem with something you uploaded. Yea you'll get hate-mail from time to time, but so what? Dump it or answer it, that's up to you. I put my e-mail address in everything I upload, which now counts in the hundreds and I can count the e-mails I've gotten on one hand. So either that means the stuff I do sucks and folks just delete it and go on, or they like it and just don't bother writing to let me know, lol, but at least they have the option. Also, I'm not big on the whole Facebook thing, so that's not something I lose sleep over.

I'm not talking about the 'attack' but about the general attitude towards developers at Avsim. e.g. the totally incorrect accusation of theft (hence the deleted files) in case of the MAAM/Roy Chaffin B25, the story with Mikko Maliniemis Valmet etc.. to name just a few.

Our general attitude towards developers what ? Protecting authors work? , Bernt I think you over generalized there , were one to generalize it’s safe to say that where there is any question of authorship or copywrite issues the only course of action is to pull the files until such time as the is no doubt whatsoever, would you have it any other way?

Best CJ

I visit Avsim regularly and am glad for their resource. Hopefully the issues that some members have will be resolved. Personally, since I cleared my browser cache, found the new url and re-logged in, I have had no issues (Ie9).
