Still a long way off, but I couldn't resist showing progress so far:

:jump: That looks pretty good allready! Looking forward to fly it. Now I got to get up to your progress with my 1/72 model....

don't you just love lazy sundays...

some final touches on the nose:

we continue with the rest of the aircraft, first the tail, then the wings:

Coming along nicely, don't you think? Maybe a bit more paint scratching on the engines?
Please note that this is not meant to look like the B-17 of the Collings Foundation, but rather like the original.
I've done 'only' 124 mission markings, so you guys will need to fly two more for Sgt Davis' Bronze Star, and in total 16 more before the end of the war..

Only thing I want to mention is that the contrast at the front gunner window housing could be a bit more visible. On the photos the contrast is pretty heavy, I think. But I got some problems with red/green/brown vision anyway, so I might be pretty much wrong!

Yeah, looks good, the contrast is pretty noticeable on black/white shots, too. I guess it got those parts new some time durings it´s service?

Do I see it correct that the fuselage is lighter than the wings? Is this wanted?

I really appreciate the work you put into this one! :icon29:

Edit: Btw, have you seen this photo: http://www.highironillustrations.com/aviation_pics/b17_909.jpg ?

It shows the airplane in the middle of it´s service period I guess from the markings. Interesting is the fact that she does not seem to wear the black leading edge lines. Looks more like bare metal with the red color painted over it on the stabilizer. My Revell painting guide shows the leading edge stripes, but no "no step" lines at all on the wings, while they are very obvious on the Collings version....

Looks like she had some patches on the rudder, too. Must have been quite a hard life back than. I guess one can´t even imagine the way it was back than.

Wear on the wings and engines looks pretty good in my opinion!

Sorry for going a bit OT, but anyone remembers this?

Reminds me of the saying they had during loading screens if I remember correctly. It was about the world becoming grey and colourless with the announcement of a new mission, and the colours returning with the touchdown back on the home airfield. I was pretty young back than, but still I could understand this.

Here's a shot of 909 with black leading edge stripes.

Yeah, but looking at the scheme on the nacelles, it seems to be the Collings replica.

There is a lot of artistic freedom anyway, with this little information given after all, and I am glad to see it coming up the way it does!

no, I had not seen that before, thank you for posting.
Some serious maintnance, two engines off, after about 55 missions, looking at the markings.
Yes, that tail, clearly the rubber de-icing boot has come off, I have done that for another aircraft, 'Mercy's madhouse' if I'm not mistaken.
I don't think it's such a big problem, they might always have put it back on. Since you asked for 909, you can choose, with or without?

Ah Fond memories of that superb game - to be gunner, pilot or even a little friends pilot was such fun.

Hehe, I asked if you might do it, but it´s still all up to you, do it anyway you want it! I think I will put them onto my 1/72, kind of misses something if they are not there.

in that case I'll leave them on.
Meanwhile, another update:

I've added a couple of new shiny cowl flaps on #2 engine, just like the real one about this time (120+ missions), and I added soem oil stain on the engine cowlings:

FX17081.jpg

FX17087.jpg

and I had a look at the color difference you mentioned between wings and fuselage. There is nothing much I can do, they are exactly the same paint color and staining level, I fear it has to do with the refelctions of the different bits and pieces of the model. Sometimes it is the same:

FX17086.jpg

and sometimes the fuse is darker:

FX17089.jpg

as well as lighter as you pointed out.

a few overall pics:

any other suggestions/remarks anyone?

Jan , I think you prity much nailed it , i have a WWII close ups off the nose but all in b&W , some forts come with a different camo tone and course the oil splatters and battering make it difficult to really tell , i do have close up off the Colin Foundation in colour , if it was an authentic repaint then why is it in the olive drab that that near equals your paint .... I would say she is good to go
