• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Reading some posts here made me decide to post the following:

I think i speak (or type) for at least most of the SOH community:

A big, and i mean BIG token of appreciation for the entire SOH staff is in order.

Thanks to these people the site is run, maintained and kept free of a lot of nonsence. The Site admins keep the site running in excellent order, and give enthousiasts a place to share their hobby. It also gives people, new or experienced in flightsim a very valuable knowledge base for trouble shooting!
Even today i browsed through the database of all produced and shared freely, something that is made possible by....the SOH-staff.

We don't always have to agree with decisions made by the SOH staff, but that does not mean we do not appreciate what these people are doing for us; giving us a domain of our own on the big big internet....for free!

To the SOH-staff, a big, BIG thanks!

Job well done, and i hope you all will continue to do so in the future!

Tomorrow the last day of 2008 officially starts ( 6hrs from now GMT ), it would be nice if it went by nicely.

I'm not one for blowing smoke where...well you know where, but some cordiality and sensitivity to differences sure would make make a nice end to SOH 2008, what y'all think ?.

Saying thanks to SoH staff is a good start but I think smarter behaviour would send a better message IMHO.

Let's do both. I certainly do appreciate every minute the guys who look after SOH spend on making our hobby such a good one. One of the reasons this is about the only forum I participate in, is because of the spirit of the administrators and the general good nature of the members. Doesn't hurt to be reminded every so often that this site is a privilege and not a right, and that we are some very lucky people.

Thanks Ickie, Canelo Kid, Douglas, (hope I don't leave anyone out!) and the moderators - you guys are the best.

I'll "fourth" those sentiments. I had joined other sites before I came here, and this is the first place where I noticed a sense of "community." I appreciate it.

SimOuthouse is the best

Thanks to everyone connected with SimOuthouse for making my flight sim hobby really something to enjoy. The efforts given by all those who are connected to the administration and functioning of SOH are greatly appreciated. Thanks for everything.

Also thanks to the entire SOH community which means those who post here and upload their fantastic creations. Your efforts are especially appreciated by this humble participant.

Hear, hear! Sometimes it's easy to take the things we have for granted until one day you wake up and they're gone (ain't it just like real life?). I do hope the SOH staff knows that, even though we don't say it too much, we really appreciate all the hard work they're doing. I would hate to see this place go: it's about the only forum I know where you can have a difference of opinion without getting your head verbally smashed in.

I was a member way back in 2000 or 2001, but I dropped out and spent my time with the BA forums. I've since gotten away from BA for a much need break and spend most of my time here since signing up again. There's more info and help here than anyother FS site going. The staff and members are some of the best out there. The time given by Ickie and Staff has to be some long and grueling hours, especially with the site being hacked recently and losing a ton of forum pages.

So... to Ickie and Staff, my big thanks for making SOH the best place to hang your hat. Thanks for all you all have done for everyone of us here, tho we don't alwys say it. Hopefully SOH will continue on, but in case it doesn't we will understand your decisions.

I'd also like to show my appreciation as this is a wonderful site, one that I check many, many times on a daily basis and certainly more than the ones I should be checking on a daily basis!

However I forget about the cost, it seems Ickie is funding all this so donations are not working I presume? We had a donation system at the EFC for the online server, many of us would make a small donation on an annual basis and when money was running out, we'd be informed of this and throw a few more coppers in the kitty. With the number of members this site has, would this not be an idea? I've just had to look around the menu here to find the donate button as I'd forgotten all about this option, perhaps others have too, so what about a nudge every now and again? Of course the problem for donations at this moment lies with the future of the site, but if she's to stay, I'll try harder to do my bit and put my money where my mouth is, even if it's only a token gesture.
 
Nick, good point, theres a donate button at the top of each page, people who donate get a medal after their user name, I think the medals change after each donation you make, I'm expecting mine to change shortly as the payment is progressed. Even being fully aware the site might close I still donated, its simple really, they wont be out of pocket by my paltry amount in 60 days :).

Looking at it another way, I could have spent the same amount tonight down the pub with the lads and tomorrow I'd have nothing, at least I still potentially get 60 days with the donation, which is 60 times more than the night out LOL.

As I said, people support in different ways [smile].

Your point was also valid Michael, I've just thrown a paltry amount into the pot for 60 days worth.
 
Took me a while too LOL, welcome to the club :). I think your user name also gets underlined, mine isnt due to some problem somewhere, typically LOL, they tried ever so hard to sort it out but its not an important thing in my mind, so I dont have an underline just the medal.

I dont know the reason for such a move, but sure it would be a great loss to all of us !!
This is the only forum I visit every day.
