Hatfields and McCoys...

SOH-CM-2013
...Anybody watching this 3 part series on the History Channel? I was pleasantly surprised at the first installment. I mean a lot of the time when a program gets as much publicity as this one, it usually flops for me.

Daveroo, check your TV listings for tonight. The channel that I get it on will be showing an encore of the first episode before the new episode.
Encore here on the East Coast is 7:00 p.m. with the new episode airing beginning at 9:00 p.m.

thank you i shall check it...

I think they will re-air last nights show tonight before part two, but I did see that it is going to be on all day Saturday with all three parts.

i lived near a place in tennessee where 2 families were feuding. the place they lived, cops don't go there. i was there on a service call.

my folks have some friends with a "cabin" at cave junction oregon,,where the sisque smoke jumpers were based...there is a community nearby they live in tree houses and such...my folks went sight seeing in a 1955 packard carribean convertable...they were lucky to come home.....they got stopped by a state trooper on the way out and he told them to NOT go back and then checked the packard for drugs...my folks and theyre friends are in the mid to late 70s...they dont mule drugs...

also in placer county california is a place called Iowa HIll,just across the american river from colfax, they dont have power, one fire engine..its a 1930s something ( or was) ,,and the biggest cash maker is pot...the cops DO NOT go there at all...ever....youd think that in 2012,,there wouldnt be places like this still...but its easier to let them be,,and arrest the pot dealers at street level, than "disappear" for ever at iowa hill.....which has happened a few times...in the 80s a sherrifs deputy just disappeared...nothing was ever found..including his cruiser...

...this fued should be over by now???....

If I understand correctly the Hatfields and the McCoys have actually signed a "truce", or at least a "seize fire." I have a friend from West Virginia who is all into that stuff. I always get his affiliation wrong because one the families is from WV and the other family is from Kentucky.

I worked in the same division on one of my ships with a Hatfield and if the rest of that family acts as mean and hateful as he did, there's no surprise here that the feud started up and kept going.

Willy
One of the Texas McCoys.

Haven't started watching the show yet. Thought I'd wait until I had it all on the DVR and watch it all at one setting.

you'd think in 2012 our society would have realized a way to help communities that are financially struggling and resort to desperate measures to get by. instead, we penalize them. i guess it shows where our priorities are, as a people. we should be collectively ashamed of ourselves.
america puts more people in prison per capita than any other nation in the entire world, and of those more than 75% are drug offenders. don't take my word for it, look it up and see. you can kill someone and be out of jail in 7 years or less. there are plenty of drug offenders doing double and even triple that.

and as for the geriatric crowd not likely to be selling pot? i guess they fooled you. google will guide you to news stories from several states where older folks have had some pretty big operations going.
there was a big bust in california just a few years ago where a group of several grandmas were busted. they had one of the largest drug rings ever. they had so much cash they'd been hiding it in the walls. they had literally run out of places to put it.

In case you missed episodes 1 and 2, the whole series is airing today beginning at 5:00 p.m. EDT. I've seen the first two so I won't be tuning in until 9:00 p.m.

Drug dealers LOVE old people to mule. They love white women with babies, who nice people help with their luggage. They love pregnant women, who airport authorities are reluctant to X-ray. Meanwhile, some of the angriest people I encounter are the little old ladies who honestly don't know why they have to go to the prescription counter to get a box of Sudafed. If I start talking about The War on (Some) Drugs the thread will get locked. I know the rest of you will have trouble believing this, but my opinions are contrarian.

I saw some of Hatfields v McCoys; I was switching between that and basketball, which meant I really didn't see either one very well. Perhaps I'll get to see more this weekend. I'd like the feature to do well, because I'd like History Channel to air more historical content, but as I said, I suspect a lot of this miniseries' audience were watching the playoffs. Jena Malone strongly reminds me of a friend of mine from college who I loved very much. She has a little boy now.
