FS2004 Battleship Catapult Launch (313) Flight Simulator 2004 (Other)
DOWNLOAD Catapult.zip (831.39 Kb) (downloaded 913 times)
FS2004 Battleship Catapult Launch Ever since Rob Barendregt and Doug Dawson came out with their XML gauges for carrier catapult take-off and arrestor gear landings I thought it would be possible to create a catapult launch from the deck catapult of a battleship or cruiser. The contents of this file do just that. First, I needed a battleship with a catapult. I couldn't find any that work in FS2004 so I created my own with FSDS2.24. Now, this is a simple battleship with just enough detail to look like one and is not texured. I found some drawings of a plastic model for the USS Idaho which I used as backgrounds. I added a simple pipe railing type catapult to the aft deck. I then created a invisible hardened surface placed just below the top of the catapult. This is where the airplane sits. The hardened surface is a little bigger than it needs to be, but it works. Please note the battleship was created with FSDS and does have some visibility problems; it will disappear at a few angles and distances but you can see it again just by changing your eye point. Everything I read says FS2004 scenery objects must be created with Gmax but I am not proficient in that program. The Idaho is located just inside the breakwater of the Long Beach, Ca harbor. My reference material indicates the Idaho was based at Long Beach and San Pedro for a few years just prior to WW2. I chose my Curtiss SOC-3 Seagull of a few months back for this experiment. I added the catapult gauge to the panel. PLEASE NOTE: The gauge itself is not part of this file; you must download rcbco-11.zip and install it in its entirety. It is available at www.flightsim.com or www.avsim.com and www.sim-outhouse.com at this point in time. I recommend you install this file in its entirety even though only one gauge is used in this project. There is an interaction between some of the components and this way everything works. INSTALLATION: Unzip catapult.zip into a temporary folder. Copy the folder Curtiss Seagull into the aircraft folder of FS2004. Open the gauges folder and copy the contents into the Gauges folder of FS2004. Remember, you still need the gauges from rcbco-11.zip. Open the flight folder and copy the contents into the My Saved Flights folder of FS2004. (This folder is now called Flight Simulator Files and resides in the My Documents folder of Win XP) Next copy the folder Idaho into the Add On scenery folder of FS2004. Close and open FS2004, when you see the set up screen click on settings then click on scenery library, click on add area, then look at the drop down and click on Add On scenery then click on the folder Idaho. Click on it, don't open it. Now click on OK and close FS2004. FLYING: Open FS2004, go to My Saved Flights and click on Idaho Catapult Launch. The flight will open with the Seagull sitting at the back end of the catapult. Go to cockpit view and click on only the Arm switch. Go back to Spot plane and set a eye point you like. Now, lower the flaps and run up the engine; remove the parking brake and WHIPLASH!!!! Enjoy! Paul Clawson Email: p.pandj@verizon.net

These aircraft have been created by Stuart Green from his WWI collection. The Se5a and the Felixstowe were made for CFS2 and FS2002, so some modifications were necessary. Stuart graciously gave us new texture files where required and also a post war civie paint for the Felixstowe. The Se5a airfiles were rewritten for Fs2004 by another(can't remember who???) some time ago and I made simple modifications to the Felix's airfiles(it was severely nose heavy in Fs2004). The Cuckoo is already Fs2004 compatible and is included here for those who may have missed it. These are great freeware planes from a bygone era and We are indebted to Stuart for permitting us to upload them here. As the Se5a and the Felixstowe have been modified by others, if any problems are found please address the issues to my private message box...NOT to Stuart! Good flying!!! Roger Law.

Okay, with only a few pages left now overall, I am out of work and can assist anyone who needs help.

Just tell me here what pages to do and I will be on it.

Thanks

Greetings Milton. Page 295 uploaded.

I have been glad to assist in this venture as I have felt that I have, as I stated when I started the uploading, been able to give a small amount back to the community who have shown me such kindness over the years.

I can barely fly the planes, let alone make or paint one, so I cannot help that way!

It has been an enjoyable experience, apart from that cursed link problem. I'm pleased, in a morbid way, that someone else (you at least), have been at the end of that phantom 'hang'. The time it has added to my downloading must have been hours. I was getting paranoid until you mentioned you had met the problem too, I was starting to think the 'machine' was picking on me alone!

Now I am out of a job, (after I post the results below), please feel free to contact me if anything needs doing and you require volunteers. Automatically count me in.

Blue skies Milton.

Graham.

Thank you very much Graham. Your efforts have been great and SOH and teh community benefit from this library rescue. I appreciate your diligence, time invested, and humor through it all. :salute: :applause:

Thank you Milton, you're a gentleman. I would like to point out, however, that a certain Milton Shupe needs the accolades, for without him the rest of the merry band he assembled and led would never have happened and the library would not have been moved in time.

So well done all who took part, every single one of us. Top job.

Graham.

Thank you Pat. No, we are going to put a wrap on this project very soon. :jump:

Just a few loose ends to tie up and it will be time to go flying again. :)
