Great British Flying-boats.......

Every month I try to pick up Aeroplane magazine. It usually spotlights an aircraft with photos, cut-away drawings, and blueprint type layouts, which I find interesting. It also
has historical and current day articles about restorations and the sort. Our English members probably get the latest issue ahead of us in the States since it's published there.

This month as I was perusing the magazine stand, I noticed that the Aeroplane folks had published a special edition dedicated to Great British Flying-boats (the title) that detailed
out a history of the British types from start to finish. It's flush with historical photos, cut-aways, and other items of interest. It's heavy on the pocketbook (no pun intended, but
achieved anyway!) at about $16.00, but for me was a neat item to add to my collection of aviation reference. Some of the pictures that detail out the cabin and other creature
comforts are a step back in time and some of the routes of the commercial a/c are laid out as well. The military models are covered too, with the histories making for an interesting
read.

The downside is now I want to put some of these in the FSX hangar as well!

A lot of them are available for FSX thanks to Jens B. Kristensen and the missing ones are probably available for FS2004 and will port over very nicely.

It was a very important part of British aviation for a long time and the UK led the field in terms of seaplanes for quite a while until the jet airliners came along and killed seaplanes at the drop of a hat. Once the jets became established the seaplanes were doomed.

The great Flying Boats have long been a passion of mine, there are some really good videos posted on youtube showing them in flight and some interviews with the pilots and crew.Give the library over at FS.com or Avsim a look and you will find many available, some of my favorites are the Short Solent, the Sikorsky S-42 and the Boeing 314 Clipper,a blast to fly in French Polynesia or any of the Island chains!
