CFS2 on windows 7

Got CFS2 installed on my computer with Windows 7 but when I loads it up there is no scenery just water. Did I miss something since I've been away?:ques:
 
W7 seems to affect computers differently for reasons beyond me. I have two lap tops with W7 Home on them alongn with high end Nvidia video cards and more RAM than CFS 2 can actually use, but each one has different issues with CFS 2 on this OS. My latest frustration is not being able to run the new campaigns by Talon.

Later this year I plan to build a "flight sim only" computer and it will use XP for the OS. It'll be an "off-line" computer only.

Rami has the DoA running on his win7 computer but can't check the missions in the MB.Glad I still run XP.

Funny. I can check them in the MB, but not fly them.

This fall after the hunting seasons, I'lll build the ultumate CFS 2/FS 9 sim computer using XP and get back some of the flexibility of CFS 2.

Does anyone remember how to get W7 to run a program as an earlier OS? For some reason I can't find the option in the W7 menu.
 
Right click on the CFS2 icon and go to properties than compatibility tab. Try Runnig it as one of the Win XPs it list. If that dosn't work try all the rest as well.

One thing to note is that Win7 doesn't like to have CFS2 installed in it's default location (no idea why).

It works much better if CFS2 is installed directly off of root
ie C:\CFS2

The more recent FS9 and FSX write to the main controlling XML, bin and cfg files in realtime within the remote AppData directory under user privileges. In these FS programs, the controlling files are constantly being changed by the sims in background operations under UAC rules, that's why the programs install them to the AppData directory for continuous permission to write.

CFS2 is a 'self-contained' program with no "remote" installations or writing to files. All controlling cfg files are located and written to by the sim in realtime within the main CFS2 directory, which is a constant security irritation for Win7 under its UAC rules, even though the program is harmless. The OS can't regulate the cfs2.exe and *.dll processes for security as it was designed to. But as noted, it plays by a different set of rules for custom user installations in locations outside the Program Files and Program Files (x86) directories and off the system drive. I install all of my sims and games in this manner for greater flexibility and security against loss in a system drive failure or viral infection.
 
I have CFS2 on Win7 in the default location C:program Files (x86)\MS Games\CFS2 and it work fine with Win XP SP3 fine Free Flight. Since XP is my main PC I haven't checked any thing else.

I think it may best if we ask Rami when he gets back about making permanent Win7 sticky about how to get it working on Win7 and fixing the addon aircraft that need to be edited to work on Win7 as well.
 
I have Windows 7 64 bit and have mine installed in Local Disk (C), Program Files (x86), Microsoft Games. And it runs well.
 
I keep mine outside of the Program Files (x86) folder, but I still have to run the user "Properties>Permissions" routine for full access to modify the various files within.
 
I have all my installs outside the Programs Files (x86) folder in a folder I've simply named Gamer. I also have this folder copied to a 1TB external drive. I've had enough system crashes over the years to see this as prudent. At first CFS2 worked fine in Windows 7. The only thing it didn't want to do is minimize to the taskbar, and then maximize back into fullscreen after it had been minimized. It refused, and I end up using Task Manager to exit the program, but otherwise, it ran great. I was forced by the need to deal with family issues to cut WAY back on my flight simming, but lately I've been trying to get back into CFS2. Whole different story now. Loading missions and even Free Flight is as slow as molasses, and the game doesn't seem to want to display 2D panels at all, or the gauges in VC. I have no idea why, nor do I have hours of time with everything else I have going on to go searching through my ssytem to se what happened. Add me to the list of members who think a Win7 sticky is a good idea.

PS FSX still works fine. I haven't tried using CFS3 post Flight Sim exile. I like CFS3 well enough, but still use (or did use) CFS2 much more. I don't think I have a single post on the CFS3 forum.
